When he is not working he can be found road cycling with mates, swimming or taking holidays – a holiday in Ireland is likely in the future.

Vanessa Thomas

A chartered accountant, Vanessa joins College on a fixed term contract until the end of June. Prior to joining the staff she had spent 10 years at Ara. A keen traveller, Vanessa holidayed in New York at Christmas and is already contemplating her next adventure.

Robbie McKeon

It was the aftermath of the 2010–11 earthquakes that brought Robbie McKeon from County Meath, Ireland, to Christchurch. He did a Skype interview for a position as foreman for a building company and not long after the self-employed carpenter arrived, his wife and two sons following him six months later. “Things were a bit quiet at home at the time, so we thought why not give it a go. It was good timing because one son was about to start primary school and the other, secondary.” Robbie started at College at Christmas, taking over the role previously held by Neil Piper. Margaret Lawson

New custodian Margaret Lawson (formerly Goodall) has come home to College. She filled the role for 14 years, from 1996–2011 and is delighted to have been appointed for a second stint, after Sam Cooper left at the end of the year. “It was lovely to be welcomed back in the way I was, and I’m loving being back in Christchurch and at College.” In the past eight years Margaret has worked as a property manager and caretaker at Tahunanui School in Nelson and spent three years as a caregiver working with high needs clients through the Florence Nightingale agency in Blenheim. A keen gardener she also designs and handcrafts teddy bears.

Lorraine is working as an accounts clerk, covering Janelle Masson’s parental leave and will be with College until February 2020. She joined College after working as an
