In our marital union, it too had ties/elements of Naval service. On December 11, 2004, the City of Long Beach established an installation of the Lone Sailor Memorial Statue in Bluff Park overlooking Long Beach Harbor. At said time, I dedicated a commemorative brick in his name. On December 18, 2004, we married overlooking the Long Beach Harbor on the Italian Roof Deck at the Historic Villa Riviera, which was once known as “Home of Admirals” as many officers of the U.S. Navy occupied residency during WWII and continuing through the early 1950s.

Our father was an Air Force Sergeant, specifically part of the aerospace rescue and recovery squadron, who fought in the Vietnam War. This photo is from the Air Forces Times to commemorate a mission where his squadron made 11 combat rescues in 11 days. He was awarded seven of those saves. Throughout his time in the Air Force, he was also awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses, five Air Medals for heroism and credited with saving the lives of many men under enemy fire during the Vietnam War. My paternal grandfather, Richard LaBouliere , graduated from West Point and Ranger school in the ‘60s and then served in the Army in Vietnam as a part of the Air Defense Artillery branch. He retired from the Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of service.
