My maternal grandfather, Joe Walsh , enlisted and served as a tail gunner on B-17s in the Army Air Force during World War II. Joe was one of the few “Flying Fortress” crewmen who survived the maximum 35 flights, even after being shot down and crash landing twice.
My paternal grandfather, Richard LaBouliere , graduated from West Point and Ranger school in the ‘60s and then served in the Army in Vietnam as a part of the Air Defense Artillery branch. He retired from the Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of service.
