A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 12

As we approach the end of this half term, I am sure students are looking forward to a well-deserved break after what has been a very busy few weeks for them. A reminder that the first draft of students’ personal statements are due on Monday 3 June. Ms Lee-Lewis has generously conducted some workshops on how to write an effective personal statement and I am pleased to see that many Year 12s have taken advantage of this great opportunity. Year 12 Photography students have been busy with their mock exams this week. During this 15-hour practical exam, they completed their final photography pieces, showcasing both their technical skill and creativity. I know they have relished the chance to showcase their talent. On Tuesday, Dr Kaili Rimfield from Royal Holloway visited Waldegrave to talk to our social science students about her research. Dr Rimfeld studies causes of individual differences in academic achievement, examining psychological, genetic, and sociological factors behind students’ performance in exams. Her thought provoking talk sparked much discussion about the ethical implications of socially sensitive research.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, students received an assembly this message to heart and spend time outdoors during the holidays for exercise and fresh air.

In the first week back from half term break, our Sociology students are fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the Old Bailey in preparation for the unit on crime and deviance. This will be an enriching experience that ties directly into their curriculum.

May I wish all students and their families a relaxing and enjoyable half term break.

A working class woman, the protagonist has fought hard to get to the position she is at: a successful criminal barrister. However, when she becomes a victim of a crime, her faith in the system that she has dedicated her life to is called into question. The audiobook, narrated by Jodie Comer, is highly recommended. ~ Recommended by Mrs Nowicki
