119 Old State Rd., Ellisville, MO 63021 THE WEALTH ZONE HOW I CELEBRATE LIFE’S SIMPLE TREASURES THE TRUE MEANING OF WEALTH CapitalAdvisoryGrp.com November 2023

The holiday season can be difficult for many. On top of busy workloads during the last few months of the year, you may be stressed while trying to make the holidays as memorable as possible for your children and grandchildren. Not to mention the cost of living — many may wonder how they’ll travel to see family, purchase food and gifts, and make ends meet as they do everything they can to accumulate and preserve their wealth. My heart goes out to those struggling — if there’s anything I can do to help you during this time, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I understand the stress you could be under during this time of year. As you scroll through social media and see the luxuries other people purchase or how they celebrate the holidays, it’s easy to compare your lifestyle to others. But I assure you, everything is not as it seems. If you look behind the curtain, you notice that many of these posts are only the “success” the person wants you to see. You never see the struggles, hardships, or trials they’re going through. Additionally, they may have difficulty attaining the lifestyle they portray on social media. However, I recently came across a quote that put many things into perspective. It said, “If you have a family that loves you, a

few good friends, food on your table, and a roof over your head, you’re richer than you think.” It’s easy to think and talk about what you wish you had or imagine a life where you receive everything you want. Please don’t let this mindset cloud your vision of the people and things you have in your life. Even with the roadblocks life throws at you, many people wish they were in your shoes — even with your struggles. I’m not saying how you feel about your current situation isn’t valid; it most definitely is. However, taking an outside approach and looking at your situation from a bird’s eye is always a great idea. Many things can come to light and help you realize that although you wish your circumstances were better, you’re better off than others. So, vent and let your emotions out — it’s healthy! But don’t dwell in the “what could have been” or “what I wish was true” mentality; you can decide how you will react. You could allow your wants and needs to consume you and alter your outlook on life. Or, you can embrace the unknown, what you have, and what you can do in the future.

I outline any wins (no matter how big or small), impacts I’ve made on your lives as I help you keep more of your wealth, and little things that made me smile. Looking at the positives has helped me realize that even with the turbulences in life, I have more things to be grateful for than I initially thought. So, this holiday season, I implore you to focus on the people and things you already have in your life. Tell your family and friends how much you love and appreciate them; you never know what tomorrow will bring.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

When preparing for your flight, it’s essential to pack the basics, such as clothing, medications, toiletries, and your travel documents. However, there are some surprising and often overlooked items that can greatly enhance your flying experience. These unexpected additions in your carry-on can make your air travel experience more comfortable, enjoyable, and stress-free. Electrolytes Flying is dehydrating! Because airplane cabins are kept at a lower humidity level, your body dehydrates quicker than normal. To help keep your body hydrated without a dozen trips to the bathroom over the course of your flight, pack some electrolyte packets to mix into your water. Speaking of water, pack an empty water bottle with you, and after passing through security, you can fill it up at a water fountain! ELEVATE YOUR TRAVEL EXPERIENCE UNCONVENTIONAL ITEMS TO PACK ON YOUR NEXT FLIGHT

There’s one part of empty nesting almost no one talks about: After feeding a family for years, how do you rethink your kitchen to cook for two? Classic recipes like pot roast and roast chicken are challenging to cook in two-person portions and will create a metric ton of leftovers. But that doesn’t mean you have to eat from your freezer for weeks or survive on cereal and pizza rolls! Here are three tips to help you cook for two without compromising healthy eating. 1. Meal plan like you’re a young parent again. This will be a familiar tactic for big families. Back in the day, you probably had “Taco Tuesdays” and “Pizza Fridays” to keep your grocery shopping on track and your kids happy. Now, it’s time to develop a new meal plan! Work with your partner or spouse to choose your favorite recurring meals and find new two-person recipes that fit your preferences. If you’re not sure where to start, consider using a digital meal- planning tool. The editors at CNN recently compared the top meal-planning apps and recommend downloading the premium version of Eat This Much (EatThisMuch.com). It costs $9 per month, and you can use it from your phone or computer. Once you choose your recipes, it will automatically create a grocery list and even give you the option to order grocery delivery! 2. Invest in a meal kit service. If you’re exhausted by cooking and don’t want to build a new repertoire, you might want to use meal kits through your golden years. Dozens of companies will deliver ready-made meals or pre-portioned ingredients directly to your door, including Blue Apron, HelloFresh, Sunbasket, Home Chef, Dinnerly, EveryPlate, and Purple Carrot. Read up on each service (they’re all recommended for two!), and choose the best fit for your diet and budget. A meal kit can be a permanent fix or a temporary tactic to find two-person recipes you love. 3. Turn to the experts. For more inspiration and advice, pick up books like “The Complete Cooking for Two Cookbook” by America’s Test Kitchen or “One Pan, Two Plates” by Carla Snyder. Master the Challenge of Cooking for 2

Noise-Canceling Headphones Flights can be noisy. You can never predict crying babies, loud talkers, or hyper kids traveling alongside you. Noise-canceling headphones can provide a peaceful oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of the airplane. They block out ambient noise and allow you to relax, listen to music, or enjoy in-flight entertainment without any distractions.

Compression Socks Wearing compression socks on an airplane is crucial for maintaining healthy circulation during long flights. Prolonged periods of sitting can lead to blood pooling in your legs, causing swelling, poor circulation, and even deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Compression socks apply gentle pressure to your legs, reducing discomfort and circulation complications. Portable Charger While you may have remembered to pack your plug-in phone charger, bringing along a portable charger and power bank is a lifesaver! Sometimes, finding an available charging station in a crowded airport can be tricky. But having a backup power source on the plane makes it possible to keep your devices charged throughout your journey! When packing for your next flight, don’t forget to include these trip-saving items in your carry-on for a more pleasant travel experience — you’ll be glad you did!

If all else fails, buy backyard chickens — they’re fantastic at gobbling up leftovers!

Are You Aware of the New Service Providers? THE RETURN OF STUDENT LOAN PAYMENTS

In September 2023, the pause on student loads ended after nearly four years. Starting last month, borrowers began making payments on their debt and will continue to make monthly payments. Because it’s been a while since you or your adult child or grandchildren opened your student loan account, it’s time for a refresher on what you need to know. The USDE is using new loan service providers. Last year, you may recall receiving an email from the U.S. Department of Education notifying you that payments will resume and that you must send your payments to a new servicer. You could be making payments to one of the six loan service providers: Edfinancial, MOHELA, Aidvantage, Nelnet, ECSI, and Default Resolution Group. Please visit StudentAid.gov, log in using your parent username and password, visit your account dashboard, and scroll down to the “My Loan Servicers” section to learn more about where you or your child need to make their payments. You can also call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243. Who do you contact for loan information? If you’re unsure how much you need to pay each month, have questions about how much you owe, time frames, and loan disbursements, your

loan service provider will typically send an email informing you of the payment deadline and the minimum amount you need to pay. However, your child (or you, if this is for your student loans) can contact the university you or your child attended for more loan information. What happens if you never pay your student loans? Refusing to repay your loans or being delinquent in making payments could result in a civil lawsuit in which the lender or creditor can sue borrowers to collect the money owed. But that’s not all — this default will be reported to credit bureaus, meaning your credit score will drop. This will make it hard to borrow money, receive a credit card, or take out future loans. Are there payment assistance programs? You can apply for the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) plan, which will calculate your monthly payment based on your income and family size. To apply, please visit StudentAid.gov/IDR . If there is anything we can do for you during this time, like establishing a budget or helping you schedule a payment plan that will fit your needs, please contact us today!

Veterans, Thank You for Your Service!

GIVING BACK TO THOSE WHO GAVE EVERYTHING

Donate to a veterans organization. When soldiers return home after serving, it’s challenging to transition to a civilian lifestyle. They may have difficulty finding treatment for their injuries or what they saw during service. Others could be worrying about applying for jobs or housing. However, donating to veteran charities or organizations can help veterans get the care and resources they rightfully deserve. Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, Home of Our Troops, the USO, Operation Write Home, and Don’t Forget About a Soldier’s Best Friend are a few organizations you can contribute to. If you want to donate locally to veterans in your area, go to GreatNonprofits.org/city/saint-louis/ MO/category:veterans for more information.

There are over 16 million veterans in the U.S. today. These brave men and women put their lives on the line to protect our rights and freedoms. No matter how many times we thank those who fought for this country, there aren’t enough “thank yous” to equal what they’ve done for all of us. Our veterans don’t get the recognition they deserve for their impact on our lives. However, if you want to get involved and help the veterans in our communities, here’s how you can help. Ask someone about their service. Learning about the lives and experiences of our veterans can provide you with a deeper understanding and appreciation for their service. In turn, you’re allowing veterans to share their stories with you, making their voices feel heard and valued.

communities, we encourage you to look into The Mission Continues — an organization that provides veterans with a space for personal growth and a chance to make a difference in St. Louis. Volunteer at or visit a VA hospital. Many VA facilities host events around Veterans Day that you can attend. If allowed, volunteer at these facilities to give back to these brave men or women or spend the day with a veteran. Some people don’t have family close enough or in a position to visit them. You make their day by simply donating your time. If you’re a veteran needing benefits or financial assistance, please visit VA.gov for more resources and to find a VA facility near you.

For veterans who want to serve in the community and help under-resourced

To all our veterans, thank you for your service.
