Veterans, Thank You for Your Service!

GIVING BACK TO THOSE WHO GAVE EVERYTHING

Donate to a veterans organization. When soldiers return home after serving, it’s challenging to transition to a civilian lifestyle. They may have difficulty finding treatment for their injuries or what they saw during service. Others could be worrying about applying for jobs or housing. However, donating to veteran charities or organizations can help veterans get the care and resources they rightfully deserve. Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, Home of Our Troops, the USO, Operation Write Home, and Don’t Forget About a Soldier’s Best Friend are a few organizations you can contribute to. If you want to donate locally to veterans in your area, go to GreatNonprofits.org/city/saint-louis/ MO/category:veterans for more information.

There are over 16 million veterans in the U.S. today. These brave men and women put their lives on the line to protect our rights and freedoms. No matter how many times we thank those who fought for this country, there aren’t enough “thank yous” to equal what they’ve done for all of us. Our veterans don’t get the recognition they deserve for their impact on our lives. However, if you want to get involved and help the veterans in our communities, here’s how you can help. Ask someone about their service. Learning about the lives and experiences of our veterans can provide you with a deeper understanding and appreciation for their service. In turn, you’re allowing veterans to share their stories with you, making their voices feel heard and valued.

communities, we encourage you to look into The Mission Continues — an organization that provides veterans with a space for personal growth and a chance to make a difference in St. Louis. Volunteer at or visit a VA hospital. Many VA facilities host events around Veterans Day that you can attend. If allowed, volunteer at these facilities to give back to these brave men or women or spend the day with a veteran. Some people don’t have family close enough or in a position to visit them. You make their day by simply donating your time. If you’re a veteran needing benefits or financial assistance, please visit VA.gov for more resources and to find a VA facility near you.

For veterans who want to serve in the community and help under-resourced

To all our veterans, thank you for your service.
