Learning in Action!
The VIA program of 2023 has met with notable success in a number of areas. Students have engaged with an enhanced curriculum designed to challenge their academic skills and approaches, resulting in measurable growth across the board. The philosophy of maintaining high expectations has paid dividends for students, inviting them to test themselves and see what their capabilities actually are instead of relying on preconceived limitations. The expansion of the program into Year 9 has been a positive move with the students, as they move towards senior school, building and consolidating the skills that they will need for future studies; granting them more options and pathways while helping them form productive strategies to handle increased workloads. VIA students have attended a number of excursions, and this has provided a wealth of learning opportunities both in terms of academics and social skills. These have been invaluable chances for students to extend their understanding of important concepts and are set to remain a feature of the VIA program.
Earlier in the year, VIA students were invited to take part in a snap survey so they could express their opinions regarding VIA. The school was pleased to see the truly overwhelming majority of respondents stating that they thought that the program:

• directly assisted in preparing them for VCE level studies. The participation rate of students within the VIA Program extends to extra - curricular activities. For example, participation rates in the school production for VIA students was extraordinary. This dedication to all areas of school life, not just purely academic pursuits, is fantastic to see and demonstrates the students ’ wish to extend themselves across a number of areas. During Science Week in Term 3, the Year 9 VIA cohort assisted a range of Primary year levels with their experiments. The older students demonstrated keen leadership skills, resulting in an engaging and educational session for all involved.
