(CONTINUED)

The only exception is the word “retired”. • It includes the name of any political party, whether or not it has qualified for the ballot. • It includes a work(s) referring to a racial, religious, or ethnic group. • It refers to an activity that is prohibited by law. GUIDELINES TO ACCEPTABLE BALLOT DESIGNATIONS (BASIC TEST) • Is it true? • Is it accurate? • Does it mislead? • Is it generic? (This means “IBM” is unacceptable, “Computer Company” is acceptable.) • Is it neutral? (This means not for or against.) • Is it how this person makes a living? Candidates may review their own ballot designation, as well as that of other candidates, in this office during working hours from December 11, 2023, through December 22, 2023 (excluding weekends). There are specific laws and regulations that govern whether or not a ballot designation is acceptable or unacceptable for printing on the ballot. These rules are outlined in California Elections Code §13107, §13107.3, §13107.5 and Title 2 of the California Code of Regulations §20710-20719.
