While the data covers the full state, more than 95% of the federal civilian Air Force employment is located at Tinker AFB, which provides a good proxy for activity at the base. Figure 7 also includes the most recent hiring outlook for high demand occupations at the Base through fiscal years 2025 and 2026. Federal Civilian Employment. In fiscal year 2024, a reported 17,895 permanent civilian Air Force jobs were in Oklahoma. Again, most of these federal civilian jobs are located at Tinker AFB. Approximately 60% of the civilian jobs are white collar occupations with the remainder trade and craft positions. Average wages across all permanent federal civilian workers reached almost $83,900 annually in FY2024. Growth continued in the total number of civilian personnel since the 2020 aerospace report. The number of permanent civilian personnel increased by almost 500 between FY2019 and FY2024. By job type, an increase of 1,100 jobs in white collar occupations was offset in part by a reduction of 600 blue-collar jobs. White Collar Occupations. By major type, there are 10,611 white collar workers reported among permanent civilian Air Force personnel in the state. Average wages for white-collar occupations reached approximately $95,200 in fiscal year 2024. Numerous high-skill white collar occupations directly related to aerospace are held by civilians at Tinker AFB, including specialties in engineering and architecture (2,507 jobs); information technology (715 jobs); mathematics and statistics (542 jobs); quality assurance, inspection, and grading (226); and physical sciences (59 jobs). Substantial employment gains were posted in all these groups relative to fiscal year 2019 levels reported in the 2020 aerospace report. Employment in other more general white-collar specialties include business and industry (1,548), supply (479), and accounting and budget (387). Gains were posted in all three of these groups relative to fiscal year 2019 employment levels. The largest job gains among white collar occupations include information technology (+260 jobs), general engineering and architecture (+251 jobs), administrative and clerical (+142 jobs), and business and industry (+135). Trade and Craft Occupations. Federal civilian workers filled a reported 7,284 trade and craft jobs at Air Force locations in Oklahoma in fiscal year 2024, with a large share of these workers holding traditional aerospace occupations.
