Greater OKC Region Aerospace Industry – 2025

The large, top-tier aerospace states of California, Texas, Washington, Georgia, and Florida continue to lead in number of employees in these categories as well as in most other aerospace-related occupations. These states tend to have both significant private aerospace manufacturing infrastructure and large-scale federal and military installations. Nevertheless, Oklahoma continues to rank highly in the number of employees in these four key aerospace occupations. The state currently ranks 14th among the states with 1,560 aerospace engineers. The number of aerospace engineers in a state is closely related to the level of research and development, manufacturing, and space-related activity taking place. The Greater Oklahoma City region has a reported 944 aerospace engineers in 2025, two- thirds of the state total, up from 647 in 2020. Oklahoma ranks 4th in employment of aircraft mechanics and service technicians with more than 8,000 workers, and 10th in avionics technicians with 420 workers. The higher rankings for Oklahoma on both occupations reflect the larger role they play in aircraft MRO activity, one of the state’s strengths. The Oklahoma City metro area is home to 2,650 aircraft Aerospace Employment Comparison . Figures 9 and 10 examine state-level differences in employment and wage rates for key aerospace occupations with varying skill requirements. The future growth of the aerospace industry hinges on the continuous development of a highly skilled workforce. Additionally, the region's wage costs, in comparison to competing aerospace markets, play a crucial role in its ability to attract future industry growth. This section includes comparative data on employment and average annual wage rates by detailed occupation, covering both private sector and federal civilian government workers in aerospace-related jobs.
