Oklahoma Christian University prepares workers for careers in aerospace through both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in electrical engineering and computer engineering. Emphasis options are available in software engineering along with minor fields in computer science, mathematics, and software engineering. Many aerospace programs are joint offerings through Oklahoma education institutions. For example, through the Aviation Alliance at Tinker AFB, aviation coursework is offered collaboratively by Oklahoma City Community College, Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City, and Rose State College. The Oklahoma Department of Commerce recently established a Center of Excellence for Workforce Development for Aerospace and Cybersecurity. Rose State College and Tulsa Community College will collaborate with Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology (OSUIT) to provide aerospace educational courses. Rose State College offers various degree options related to aerospace, including the Associate in Science (A.S.) - Engineering Mechanical-Aerospace Option. This program is designed for students aiming to transfer to a four-year university for a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering. Additionally, Rose State College offers the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Aviation Management. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University operates a branch campus near Tinker AFB in Midwest City where it offers a range of associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees, as well as undergraduate certifications across multiple aerospace fields. Federal contracting serves as a significant source of economic activity in Oklahoma, and a large portion of this activity is closely tied to aerospace. Much of the state’s aerospace contracting activity is concentrated in the Greater Oklahoma City region and primarily traced to Tinker Air Force Base and the FAA’s Monroney Center. This section of the report evaluates recent trends in aerospace contracting in Oklahoma by examining the distribution of funding by agency, the geographic distribution of vendors, and the largest contractors operating in the region.
