Oklahoma Procurement by Aerospace-Related Agencies Figure 20 provides a multi-year overview of federal contracting activity by the Air Force, FAA, and NASA performed in the state and Greater Oklahoma City area. The data provides historical measures in fiscal years 2005 and 2010 as well as annual contracting amounts from fiscal years 2015 to 2024. Again, the methodology used in Figure 20 measures the total amount of contracting engaged in by the three aerospace-related agencies rather than purchases of goods and services used directly in aerospace applications regardless of the agency making the expenditure. Air Force, FAA, and NASA Procurement. Across the Air Force, FAA, and NASA, vendors in Oklahoma performed $3.0 billion in combined contracts in fiscal year 2024. Approximately $2.71 billion were performed in the Greater Oklahoma City region and $2.66 billion performed in Oklahoma County alone. Air Force. Measured through fiscal year 2024, Air Force contracting performed in the Greater OKC region roughly doubled since fiscal year 2015 and increased 40% in the most recent five years between fiscal years 2019 and 2024. Air Force procurement of $2.26 billion is the dominant component of the fiscal year 2024 total for the Greater OKC region. FAA. FAA contracting in the region more than doubled between fiscal years 2015 and 2024 and posted a 42% increase over the most recent five between fiscal years 2019 and 2024. FAA procurement of $449 million in fiscal year 2024 is less than one-fifth the size of Air Force activity but remains a critical component of total federal contracting in Oklahoma and the Greater Oklahoma City region. Almost 98% of all FAA contracting statewide was performed in the 10-county region in fiscal year 2024, primarily in Oklahoma County. NASA. A far smaller component of federal procurement activity in the region is NASA contracting. Approximately $40 million in NASA contracts were performed in Oklahoma in fiscal year 2019. NASA contracts have since declined below $1 million in fiscal year 2024. Only relatively small amounts of NASA contracts were active in Oklahoma the past decade. As shown in Figure 16, Oklahoma had only 7 federal employees employed in the state who were affiliated with NASA in fiscal year 2024. State Rankings for Air Force, FAA, and NASA Procurement. Figure 21 provides comparative state rankings for contracting by each of the three key agencies and the combined total amount of contracting by the three in fiscal year 2024. Oklahoma’s combined $3.0 billion in contracting for the Air Force, FAA, and NASA ranks the state 14th in fiscal year 2024. Oklahoma ranks 14th in Air Force contracting with $2.55 billion in fiscal year 2024. This
