Greater Oklahoma City Region - Aerospace Industry Survey

Estimated Effects. Figure 25 provides estimates of economic multiplier effects generated in the Greater Oklahoma City economy from direct activity in the aerospace industry in 2025. Again, these are gross measures of economic spillover and do not account for any public or private costs to the region (including incentives) associated with the aerospace sector. In terms of direct employment, 45,539 workers in the region are employed directly in aerospace, with the majority employed in public sector positions at Tinker AFB and the FAA Center. These workers indirectly support an additional 34,673 jobs across the Greater Oklahoma City region (the sum of indirect and induced employment). In total, an estimated 80,211 jobs in the region are provided either directly by the aerospace sector or supported indirectly through multiplier effects generated by the industry. In other words, each direct job in the aerospace sector supports approximately 0.76 additional jobs in the broader regional economy. For comparison, the estimated total employment effect in the 2020 aerospace report was 77,105 jobs, a 4% gain across the period. The $3.96 billion in direct labor income paid to aerospace workers likewise generates substantial ripple effects as the income is earned and recirculated within the regional economy. The estimates in Figure 25 indicate that an additional $2.99 billion in labor income earned by workers in other industries statewide is supported by direct activity in the aerospace sector, or a total earnings impact of $6.9 billion in the region in 2025. Each dollar of labor income earned by workers in aerospace supports an additional $0.71 in labor income in the 10-county region across all industry sectors. The current estimate of $6.9 billion in total labor income is 19% above the estimate of $5.8 billion in the 2020 aerospace report. The output of goods and services in the region is similarly stimulated by the presence of the industry. The multiplier effects in Figure 25 indicate that aerospace establishments in the region generate an estimated $8.77 billion in direct output of goods and services, resulting in estimated multiplier effects (both indirect and induced) of $6.2 billion in additional output of goods and services in other industries in the region. Overall, either directly or indirectly through multiplier effects, aerospace activity in the Greater Oklahoma City region supports the production of $15.0 billion in total output of goods and services in 2025. This suggests that each dollar of output produced directly by the aerospace sector generates an additional $0.60 in spillover output across the region. The total output estimate of $15.0 billion in 2025 is 29% above the estimate of $11.6 billion in the 2020 aerospace report. In total, the direct activity of the state’s 338 public and private aerospace establishments employed 45,500 workers, paid $3.96 billion in labor income, and generated $8.77 billion in economic output in 2025. Accounting for spillover effects, the state aerospace sector supported a total of 80,200 jobs, $6.94 billion in labor income, and $15 billion in total economic output statewide.
