Sustainability is a key trend especially for manufacturers of food and retail products. ICE USA Unveils Conference Program ICE USA, the International Con- verting Exhibition, taking place April 9-11 at the Kentucky International Convention Center (KICC) in down- town Louisville, Kentucky, has an- nounced its conference program. More than 50 training, technical and process sessions will take place dur- ing the three-day event. A Full Program The full program includes three components: AIMCAL Fundamen- tals, the ICE USA Technical Confer- ence and the Future of Converting Theater. AIMCAL Fundamentals take place on Tuesday before the show floor opens and are all-day training sessions targeted to newcomers to the converting industry. Attendees can choose between two sessions — Coating & Drying and Slitting & Rewinding. The ICE USA Technical Conference sessions are held all three days of the show from 8am-10am before the show floor opens. These 30-minute sessions are led by industry experts

Bobst To Host Label, Packaging Open House
Bobst with its REVO Partners and Mouvent will host an open house event in Florence, Italy during the first week of April. During the open house, Bobst will unveil two “world premiere” end-to-end solu- tions and what it is calling three “world premiere” breakthroughs. Label Innovations Monday, April 1, is dedicated to brand owners and on April 2-4, the event is open to printers and con- verters. TLMI Welcomes Record Attendance At Summit

TLMI welcomed record attendance at the associa- tion’s Committee Summit that took place in Orlando, Florida, on February 4-5. More than 130 registered at- tendees representing five TLMI committees came to- gether for the event, where delegates mapped out each committee’s respective agenda for the coming year. The TLMI committees represented were Techni- cal, Government & Regulations, Marketing, Environ- mental andWorkforce Development. Among the Summit’s 135 delegates were 10 new as- sociation member companies in addition to 42 first- time attendees. Nearly 100 companies were represented by the overall attending group. A synopsis of each committee’s activities during their time spent together in Orlando included: • TLMI printTHINK : All committees evaluated po- tential topics, resulting in what will be the most dy- namic content TLMI has ever presented at the event. • Government & Regulations Committee : Re- viewed current industry issues, created a process to develop TLMI position statements, reviewed policy backgrounds and drafted four position statements for consideration. Discussed all TLMI’s packaging partnerships and DC-based trade association en- gagement. • Workforce Development Committee : Reviewed “Do it yourself recruiting kits” to be implemented l ater in the f i r s t quar ter. Di scussed middl e school/high school outreach, including a pilot pro- gram at a Chicago high school career day. Dis- cussed and f ine - tuned cur rent ly in-process workforce video. • Marketing Committee : Thorough discussion around TLMI brand initiative and the overhaul of TLMI’s Product and Services Guide. Developed framework to assist TLMI member companies in cre- ating omni-channel marketing strategies. • Technical Committee : Largest committee spent the entire two days successfully creating the blue- print for TLMI’s signature printTHINK Summit. Con- tent will fall into eight separate areas of concentration. For the first time ever the committee developed more content than they have the ability to share given the time limitations of the event. • Environmental Committee : Created a new sus- tainability goal and objectives that focus on holistic sustainability vs. landfill avoidance to be reviewed and approved by the TLMI Board in March. Broke into task forces centered on matrix and liner recy- cling: reviewed collective data, developed solution partners and identified beta test sites.

der with inks that cure instantly; • Expanding substrate offerings to include plastics and other materials that don’t absorb inks; • How to achieve quality, safety-conscious print re- sults with heat-sensitive substrates; • Why and how UV-LED lamps last significantly longer (10x) than traditional UV lamps, saving time and money (LED-UV modules can provide 30,000+ hours of curing, when operated at the proper power capacity); • How to eliminate heat, ozone and mercury from the pressroom, making the process safer and improv- ing overall environmental impact; • How UV-LED curing eliminates the release of VOCs because UV inks are free of solvents and avoids the environmental issues caused by them; • How to bypass the energy costs and heat-related hazards of heatset drying; • Which value-added coatings can be used efficient- ly and effectively; and • High-end printing effects, like drip-off (aka “strike through”) and how they can be achieved, and discus- sion of further developments in this arena that are broadening creative applications and what is possi- ble with printing.
Koenig & Bauer Flexotecnica and the Flexographic Technical Association will hold a half-day seminar on the benefits and challenges of implementing e-beam curing or UV-LED into the flexo printing process.The “We Have the Cure” training conference will take place at Koenig & Bauer's facility and technology center in Dallas, Texas, on Thursday, March 28, 2019. The event is open to all industry printer/converters looking to optimize their process. Challenges Ahead Attendees will hear from experts on the benefits and challenges of electron beam curing and UV-LED relating to the press, inks and plates. Guests will also hear from a brand owner on how trends in packag- ing impact the need for newer curing technologies. In addition, a round table discussion will bring it all together and feature two guests: a narrow web print- er and flexible packaging printer that are both cur- rently running e-beam and UV-LED. Omet Open House Inaugurates Demo Center More than 250 label industry professionals took part in the “Omet Hybrid Experience,” an open house event dedicated to the opportunities provided by hy- brid printing technology in the label industry. Held on January 24-25 at the new Omet Drome, the event offered technical presentations, live demos and visits to the Omet production sites. Highlighting the event were live demonstrations of the hybrid Omet XJet powered by Durst, which dis- played the machine’s performance in terms of tech- nology, f lexibility, productivity and infinite customization possibilities. Another featured demo was of the Omet iFlex, presented with hybrid curing configuration: UV and LED printing simultaneously. Technical presentations were dedicated to the fu- ture of label printing. Paolo Grasso, Omet’s Head of Sales - Labels Business Unit, spoke about the advan- tages of digital + flexo hybrid printing technology proposed by Omet in collaboration with Durst, and those offered by flexo with UV-LED printing shown on iFlex. FTA’s Fall Conference 2019 Headed To Charlotte FTA is taking its annual Fall Conference, themed “Time Is Money,” to Charlotte, North Carolina. The event will take place Oct. 28-30 in the heart of down- town at the Sheraton Charlotte Hotel. Keith Nagle of Phoseon Technology will be chairing the event. Session topics will be centered around the journey of a flexographically printed piece, from be- ginning to end. A separate tabletop exhibit showcas- ing 65+ companies will be open intermittently between sessions as well as in the evenings through- out the duration of the conference, bringing technol- ogy solutions from the sessions to real-time fruition. “This year,” Nagle said, “we will systematically re- view and follow the steps of optimization and fin- gerprint to show their importance in improving your process, quality, throughput and most impor- tant bottom line.This project-based conference will take you through the journey from proper compo- nent selection to final print with technical industry suppliers.” Fall Conference 2019 will span the gamut of indus- try attendees, from CEOs to managers to operators. Close proximity to Clemson University and Central Piedmont Community College will open up opportu- nities for networking with the next generation to en- list up-and-coming flexographic professionals.
