CWU Trustee Retreat Agenda Thursday

General Education Implementation

Another major priority over the next year is the planning and preparation for implementation of the new General Education program. The transition to the new program will provide students with new opportunities to engage in learning and in the community early in their college careers, make connections, and think critically. The General Education Implementation Taskforce is continuing work this summer to address implementation questions and prepare a final implementation plan for approval by the full senate in Fall quarter. Additional details of the General Education Implementation progress are presented in the Board meeting packet. The Executive Committee is working to review the implementation and impact of the new budget model over the 2017-2018 academic year. The intent of this work is to identify which elements of the model performed well and which did not and to draft recommendations for changes, revisions, and modifications in practice for the upcoming academic year. This is in direct alignment with goals set out by the President’s Budget Advisory Committee (formerly Budget Executive Committee). A particular area of focus is getting more money to the mission of the university by decentralizing and directing more resources to the department level. This is in line with the philosophy of Responsibility Centered Management and the original conceptualization of the new budget model, and is essential for departments to function in innovative ways. This summer, faculty and administrators are participating in a taskforce to revise the admissions policy to ensure that policy and practice are aligned. To allow for more nimble changes in the future, the President’s Office is working on removing the WACs regarding admission policy. The policy changes that
