Depuis les dernières années, la Commis- sion de transport a opéré dans le rouge étant donné qu’il fallait mettre les infras- tructures en place. En août dernier, la Commission avait fina- lement un surplus de 16 000$ et depuis septembre, il y a augmentation des passa- gers due au prix de l’essence. Chers citoyens, le transport en commun est en place et fonctionne, il faut le conser- ver afin de protéger notre économie locale et garder nos gens chez nous. Présente- ment, il n’y a aucune publicité faite par la Commission de transport sur le sujet. Mes- dames, messieurs, faites pression sur vos politiciens afin de garder ce service; éven-
tuellement les municipalités débourse- ront moins d’argent avec la taxe d’essence qui leur revient; il faut augmenter l’acha- landage, c’est la solution. On ne lâche pas quand tout est en place, fonctionne et répond à un besoin de la population, certains comptent sur ce ser- vice pour leurs emplois, et par le fait même réduit les voitures sur la route. Une assemblée aura lieu à La Nation le 20 septembre à 9h30 le matin. Faites-vous un devoir d’y assister et faire pression sur les membres des Conseils municipaux mainte- nant. Each pub- lic forum runs from 3 to 8 p.m., with coun- ties staff attending to answer questions. A final public meeting on the OP review report is scheduled for Nov. 13, 1 p.m., in the counties chamber in L’Orignal. At the end of November the counties› planning and forestry committee will review all amendments proposed for the OP during the public forums before making final rec- ommendations to the counties council. The UCPR will then present the revised OP to Ontario Municipal Affairs and Housing for review and revisions. The counties plan- ning department expects to have a final OP report for counties council to review and adopt by December. The preliminary report on the OP review, including appendices, is available for down- load at the counties website at www.pres- cott-russell.on.ca.

L’ORIGNAL | Residents who need to know what the official plan for Prescott-Russell is or who have ideas what it should be will have their chance to speak. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) will hold a series of public informa- tion and feedback sessions starting next month on the first draft report on the cur- rent five-year reviewof the official plan (OP). “Given the importance of the Official Plan, we wish to consider the expectations and concerns of the population with regard to land-use planning,” stated Warden René Berthiaume in a news release.“The informa- tion collected will be used to develop an Official Plan that best reconciles the various interests of our citizens, our resources and the potential of our territory.” The UCPR has scheduled three open hous-

RUSSELL l Trivia Queen and extraordinary volunteer Connie Johnston of Russell has been nominated as a Scotiabank Game Changer and the public can vote for her to win now. Johnston was nominated by Peggy Marchessault of the Russell branch of Sco- tiabank who said, “Connie is a firm believer that volunteering is not only good for your community but is also great for your inner spirit.” Johnston has organized trivia nights for many years, for families in need and for special causes. She has also been an active volunteer for many Russell service organ- izations and events, including the Histor- ical Society, Horticultural Society, Agricul- tural Society, Victoria’s Quilts, Kin Club and others.
