As we mentioned on Page 1, autumn is officially here, bringing the fall season’s spookiest holiday with it: Halloween! In the U.S., approximately 35 million kids will hit the streets to trick-or-treat, but doing so isn’t without risks. In fact, Halloween is nicknamed “the deadliest day of the year for children,” with the number of fatalities twice as high as every other day. At Aulsbrook Law, we want your family to have a Halloween that’s just as safe as it is fun, so before you and your little monsters start ringing doorbells, we urge you to utilize these safety tips. Decorate your children’s costumes or candy bags with reflective tape or glowsticks. This will allow you, other pedestrians, and nearby drivers to see them in the dark. • Use face paint instead of a mask for your child’s costume. Masks can obstruct a child’s vision, causing them to accidentally walk right into danger’s path. • Make sure your child’s costume fits them properly. Loose-fitting costumes are a common cause of trips and falls, which are dangerous on their own, let alone at night. If the costume you bought doesn’t fit your child properly, you can either take it to a local tailor for alterations or watch some YouTube videos to do it yourself at home! Costume Safety Tips • Trick-or-Treating Safety Tips • Always walk on sidewalks if possible. If no sidewalks are available, walk facing traffic and as far to the side of the road as possible. • Cross the street only at corners, and use available traffic lights, signals, and crosswalks. • Watch your children closely! It may sound self-explanatory, but parents often trick-or-treat with other parents and tend to spend their time socializing or looking at their phones out of boredom. There will be many other kids who are dressed similarly and look roughly the same height as your child out and about on Halloween night, and looking away for only a moment can result in you losing your child. • Trick-or-treat with children under 12 , even if you have to give them some space. If you believe your child is mature enough to go alone, advise them to always walk with a group and stick to familiar, well-lit areas. SPOOKTACULAR SAFETY! Students are always looking for ways to make studying easier or more convenient. Many compile their notes for each subject in a notebook where they write down pertinent information from their lectures, textbooks, worksheets, and other sources. Sometimes, taking notes from a textbook can be difficult because accurately drawing the images or pictures needed is challenging. This is especially true for science classes, such as biology, anatomy, and chemistry. Wouldn’t it be helpful if we could take a picture of the diagram, print it out, and stick it into our notebooks? Now you can, thanks to the PrintMore Pocket Printer 2.0. The Pocket Printer is a unique device that will completely revolutionize how students take notes. Connect your cellphone, tablet, or laptop to the Pocket Printer through an app and print any image from your camera. Using thermal printing technology, it prints any image you send on sticky-backed paper, allowing you to peel your image and place it directly in your notebook, journal, or wherever else you want to put your new sticker. The Pocket Printer is incredibly lightweight and easy to take wherever you go. While the Pocket Printer is incredibly beneficial for students, parents and teachers will also find various uses for it. You can make stickers for your kids to reward them for good behavior or for performing well on a task. Teachers can keep one in their classroom for students to use, which will help them improve their note-taking abilities. You can even use one to print out images for a scrapbook or recipes for a cookbook. There are infinite possibilities for this little printer. The Pocket Printer 2.0 is also affordable, so you don’t have to worry about breaking the bank to get one. They’re regularly priced at $100 for the printer plus three rolls of sticky thermal paper but often go on sale for half the price. Restocking your paper only costs $15.
