“Then some said, ‘Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?’ “But He said, ‘Take ye away the stone/ A woman’s voice told how Lazarus had been dead four days. Then that gentle voice spoke as I had never heard a man speak before, saying, ‘Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou should- est see the glory of God ?’ Some one rolled away the stone, and I heard that same voice talking to the Father God in heaven, saying, ‘Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me’; and when He had thus spoken, He cried with a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come forth.’ And the spirit of Lazarus came back quickly from Paradise and went again into his body that was lying on one of my shelves, and he that had been dead got up and walked out of my entrance. “Then the One who had commanded Lazarus to come forth told some of the people who were standing there to loose him and let him go, which they quickly did. You can imagine how surprised the people were. I heard many voices talking, and many of the people believed in Jesus. And then they left me, for they did not care about a cave any longer.” This is indeed a very wonderful, true story. The One who raised Lazarus from the dead was the Author of life, the Maker of the world, and the Creator of all life. You see, children, our Lord Jesus, by dying on the cross, conquered death forever; and now everybody who has ever lived on this earth will rise again, either to live with Satan, or to be happy forever with the Lord Jesus. A little boy in Sunday-school had heard how the Lord Jesus had made a dead man live, but his teacher thought he had not understood the lesson. “Oh, yes, Teacher, I understand,” he said. “The Lord had all the life in Himself.” So you see, death has been conquered. Now let us all repeat softly the memory verse: “I am the resur rection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” —Adapted from the Sunday School Times. G iving T h an k s B efore M eals Margaret Louise is only four years old, and yet she always remembers to bow her head at the table for grace before meals. Sometimes her mother asks her to be the one to return thanks to God, her heavenly Father, for all of His good gifts, and she is always ready with her “thank you” prayer. Perhaps you would like to learn the following “thank you” verse to say at .your table: “For all Thy gifts we thank Thee, Lord, Thou art the gracious Giver; Oh, let us magnify Thy Word, And praise Thy name forever.” Read from your Bible the following verses, which show that God would have us thank Him for the food He gives u s: Matthew 14:19; 15:36; Acts 27:35. Let us remember to please Him in this way! —M. S. H. Som e New T hings Fill in the blanks with the words found in the verses of Scripture given: When you receive the Lord Jesus as your Saviour, you became a “New,............. .................: old things are passed away; behold, ..........things are become..:..?.....__ " (2 Cor. 5:17), Instead of the old heart which delights in sin and the things of the world, God gives you a new _ (Ezek. 36:26) to love and serve Him. You are then able to say, in the words of the psalmist, “He hath put a n ew _::iiu........ in my mouth, even __....... ............ unto our God” (Psa. 40:3), and long for others, too, to “Sing unto the Lord a new. ____ ” (Psa. 149:1). Some day you will see our Saviour face to face, and then, gathered about Him, will sing the “n ew ........ ....., saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy,,.,......... . out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” (Rev. 5:9). Someday, too, like John, you will behold the “holy city, new .............. ...1....................” (Rev. 21:2), the city the Lord Jesus has gone to prepare for His own. Then you will dwell with Him forever. A G ood-N ight P ra y e r Now the light has gone away; Jesus, hear me while I pray, Asking Thee to watch and keep, And to send me quiet sleep. All that has been wrong today, Jesus, Saviour, wash away; Help me every day to be Good and gentle, more like Thee. Amen.
