For Christian young people today, there are all too few books that are definitely faith-building and Scriptural, and at the same time well written from a literary point of view. Hearts That Understand is such a book. It is a delightful Southern story by a native of the South, the secretary of the Braille Circulating Library of Rich mond, Va. In the story, Meriwether Ham ilton, ardent social service worker, is courted by the popular Philip Lacy, min ister of a rich, worldly church. At first, her chosen vocation seemed to her the highest that could be selected, and to marry Lacy appeared to be the acme of achievement. But when she met Douglas Graham, a pastor who . believed and preached the whole Word of God, and when she learned, through him, that Christ is a Person to be trusted and to love, her outlook was changed because her heart was changed. As the name suggests, its use is that of in dexing references to arty topic or text of Scripture. It measures nine by fourteen inches, and is about an inch and a half in thickness. There are three distinct sec tions: first, a general alphabetical index for listing topics, together with the books and pages where references to them may be found; second, a Bible index, book by book, for entering references to any chap ter and verse of the Bible; third, a book index for listing particulars of all books referred to in the other two sections. Each section is conveniently thumb-indexed for quick reference, and the ingenious yet simple recording system is printed at the top of each page. Preachers will find this index of great help, and Sunday-school teachers and Christian workers who need a simplified yet efficient method for indexing materials which they will eventually use, will derive much benefit from its systematic use.
