WELCOME

Welcome to our 2024 Southern California Gala. This Gala presents a unique opportunity to raise critical funds to implement local programs and to honor individuals and businesses who are making a positive difference in our communities and who actively collaborate with MADD California to help fight impaired driving. On behalf of all the victims we serve, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your unwavering support and thank you for always showing up when MADD calls on you. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) was born out of tragedy, and for over four decades has been the most influential victim and survivor organization making our streets and roads safer. With a vision for NO MORE VICTIMS, MADD leads the fight against impaired driving, fundamentally changing how our nation views this public health issue. MADD’s “Tier One” legislative and regulatory priorities for 2024-25 outline initiatives where MADD leads. These areas are: 1. Lead the push for advanced auto safety technology with the HALT Act; 2. Drive State Reforms that promote prevention such as lowering the BAC from .08 to .05; and 3. Shape the national agenda on impaired driving through more educational outreach to diverse populations. These areas are chosen based on data-driven solutions that will create the greatest impact to reduce impaired driving fatalities and injuries. MADD believes in a world where everyone is safe to live, work and play. We are a movement of caring individuals with a shared purpose to end the devastation of drunk and drugged driving, which Is both a violent crime and a health and safety issue that affects every community. We commit to honor MADD’s history and continuously evolve to save lives in a changing world. We will expand our work in prevention, relentlessly advocate for necessary changes, and engage across generations and communities. We will consistently show up for victims and survivors. We will use technology, data, and best practices to deliver life-changing solutions. Our voices and experiences are our strength, and our compassion is our fuel. We invite everyone in this room to join our movement of advocates and changemakers. Together, we will not stop until we create a safer future for all and a world in which impairment puts no lives at risks.

MENTORS WANTED

Experts agree children learn from the adults around them. As novelist James Baldwin said, “Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.” Are you willing to give of yourself and mentor a Long Beach youth? Do you want to make a difference in the life of a child? Will you help a promising student stay on the right track? Or would you prefer a challenge to help an at-risk child? The Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office is partnering with a number of organizations and programs to help match mentors with those who can benefit from mentoring.
