This wonderful gospel includes the knowledge of the love of God, the death and resurrection of Christ, the open door of grace to “whosoever will,” the course of world history, and the Second Coming of the Son of God personally to take over the reins of government. This is the most needed message in the world, and the only ones who can give it out are those who know it. Thus personal responsibility S E P T EM ’B tR , 1 9 54
rests heavy upon every person who names the name of Jesus Christ (Rom. 1:14). STUDY QUESTIONS 1. What is the key verse of the book of Acts? (cp. Acts 1:8.)' 2. According to this text what is the chief responsibility of the Christian? (Acts 1:8.) 3. In what areas of the world is the Church to bear witness? (Acts 1:8.) Where is your “ Jerusalem,” your “ Judea,” your “ Samaria”—and note—the message is to go to the “ uttermost part of the earth” ! Are you doing your full share? Is your society doing its share? 4. About what Person is the believer to bear witness? (Acts 1:8.) 5. What is the believer to witness about this Person? (1 Cor. 15:1-11; 1 Cor. 2:2; 2 Cor. 5:14-21, etc.) 6. Has God made provision for the power necessary for such a tremendous task? (Acts 1:8.) 7. What does Paul say about the Holy Spirit in 1 Cor. 6:19,20? What does our Lord say about the Holy Spirit in John 14:16,17; 15:26,27; 16:7-11, 12-15? Dis cuss these wonderful ministries of the blessed Holy Spirit. 8. The miracle recorded in the central passage for today (Acts 3:1-11) be came the occasion for Peter to preach another powerful message concerning Christ to the Jews in Jerusalem. Let us note some of the interesting and instruc tive teachings of this miracle. What were Peter and John planning to do according to v. 1? Is there any connection between prayer and the attitude of prayer and the work of the Holy Spirit through the be liever? What part does prayer play in your life; in the life of your society; in the life of your church? 9. Is there any significance in the fact that Peter and John went up to pray together? (v. 1.) Discuss the importance of group prayer and of group fellowship around the throne of grace. 10. What was the condition of the man in v. 2? Would you not say that this man was hopeless, humanly speaking? Is anything too hard for God? 11. Where was this man laid day . by day? (v. 3.) Is there anything out of place in this poor man begging outside
the temple?1 Is there anything like this today? Is the Church ministering to the needs of men and women as it should? Is your church carrying the gospel out side the building as well as preaching it inside? What is the extent of your mis sionary giving, your young people giving themselves for Christian service, etc.? In other words, what about the extension of the gospel through you and your church? 12. What was the cripple expecting from Peter and John? (v. 5.) What did he get? (v. 6.) Which was the most worth-while gift? How do people evalu ate things today? Does there need to be a re-evaluation of things today? (cp. Matt. 6:19-24,33,34; Col. 3:1-4.) 13. Discuss the spiritual application of this miracle— the spiritual condition of every man out of Christ (Eph. 2:1-3; Rom. 3:23, etc.), the power of Christ to give spiritual resurrection (John 5:24,25; Col. 3:1), the immediate work of re-, generation (Acts 3:7), etc. 14. What was the result of this miracle of the grace of God? (v. 8.) Should every saved man be just as vocal of his salva tion? 15. What was the result of this man’s witness? (w . 9-11.) Are people amazed at what God has done in you and is doing through you?
