S U N D A Y S C H O O L continued Thus, in the closing verse of our lesson, we see Job’s trial at an end when he got his eyes upon God, away from himself, and when he had a heart to pray for his friends. Helps for the Children When Job Prayed For His Friends Job 42 Memory Verse: "Pray one for another . . . the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 5:16). You will remember that last week we talked about Job, a godly man whom Satan accused of trusting God only because God had greatly blessed him and his family. When Job’s body was suffering greatly, three of his dearest friends made him even more miserable by telling him to blame God for his troubles. Rather than praying for him and encouraging him, his friends misunderstood him and said unkind things about his manner of living. God became angry with these three men because of their advice to pa tient Job. God commanded the men to of fer a sacrifice and to have Job pray for them. Job might have refused to forgive their unkind words; he might have refused to pray for them. In spite of the way in which Job’s friends had treated him, he loved them and prayed for God to forgive them also. As soon as Job had prayed for his wicked friends, God blessed Job by giving him twice as much as before. Some Christian boys and girls believe that God’s command: “ Pray for one an other,” means only to pray for those whom we love—for those who treat us kindly and say complimentary things about us. The Lord Jesus said, “ Love your enemies—pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you” (Matthew 5:44). Even when our friends misunderstand us or are unfair with us, the Lord Jesus wants us to love, them and to pray for them. By loving our enemies we are showing the love of the Lord Jesus to them. His love .through us can cause them to want to know Him personally as we do. The place for the child of God to get his supply of daily wisdom is the Word of God. The book of Proverbs is especially designed to give instruction on how to meet all the prob lems of life. The word proverb comes from a Hebrew word meaning to rule , hence proverbs are short sayings given to govern life and conduct. Some one has defined a proverb as a master sentence. It is truth in concentrated form. Proverbs is crowded with such truth.
