given in such passages as Ephesians 5 and Colossians 3. Verse 14 is clearer in the Revised Version. The idea is that riches may he bequeathed to one from a human father but only God can give a man the kind of a wife he ought to have. The same goes for a husband too! How important then to take God into one’s counsel in the matter of matrimony! An Ideal Wife 31:10-12 This passage has often been used for a Mother’s Day message. It characterizes a good wife as virtuous, dependable, capa ble, energetic and beneficent. In sum mary, Christ is the key to the ideal home. Helps for Hie Children Wise Enough To Learn Proverbs 4; 6:20-23 Memory Verse: "M y son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother" (Prov. 6:20). David, the great king of God’s people, the Jews, had wanted to build a temple in which his people could worship God. Be cause David had been a man of war, God refused to allow him to build the temple. Solomon, David’s son, talked with David about God’s plan for the beautiful temple. You will remember that Solomon had asked God for the gift of wisdom later in his life. Solomon was willing to accept suggestions and advice from others. (Read 1 Chron. ch. 28, and 2 Chron. ch. 2.) In the plan and rules for living that God gives to us in the hook of Proverbs, there are many verses telling children to be willing to learn God’s way of life from their parents. Children whose par ents do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour sometimes have difficulty in obeying God and their parents, for their parents often want them to do those things which would displease the Saviour. Chil dren whose parents are Christians should often thank God for this blessing. To them God’s Word says, “M y son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother.” Happy homes are those homes in which the Lord Jesus is loved and in which God’s Word is read and obeyed. Children who talk with their parents about problems and difficulties and who pray as a family will find that the Lord Jesus has a plan for every part of life and an answer to every problem. October 31, 1954 The Dignity of Work Prov. 6:6-11; 18:9; 24:30-34 Pointers on the Lesson Do you like to work? God wants you to like it. He has made it clear in His Word that work has a ministry of bless ing for man. It also has a ministry of protection for him since the devil cannot degrade a busy man nearly so quickly as an idle man. At the very beginning after man was created he was given work to do in keeping the garden in good order (Gen. 2:15). So it has ever been. The lesson to day instructs us in this matter—the dig nity of work. A Warning Against Indolence 6 : 6-11 Certain critics of the Bible have sneered at “ Solomon’s grain-eating ant,” who stores her food in the harvest for future

S U N D A Y S C H O O L continued Solomon might have asked for any one of these or other gifts. Perhaps you will be surprised when you read in Second Chronicles 1:10 about the gift that Solo mon wanted from God. Because Solo mon did not ask for wealth, fame, the life of his enemies, or long life, God gave the wisdom for which he asked plus wealth and fame! The book of Proverbs gives to God’s children God’s plan for wise living. Read Proverbs three to discover part of this plan. Many Christians have chosen Prov erbs 3:5,6 for their life verse. Would you like to know that you are in God’s plan for your life? Would you like to know that you will choose the schools that He would have you attend, and that you will do for your life-work that which He has chosen for you to do, that you will have the life-mate whom He has chosen for you? You may know each of these things and His will for every de cision and choice which you must make if you will obey Proverbs 3:5, 6! October 24, 1954 Making Home Life Successful Prov. 4:1-4; 6:20-23; 1 9 :13 ,14 31:10-12 Pointers on the Lesson The great importance of making home life a success surely needs to be stressed in these days of marital laxity and juve nile delinquency. The matter of parental example and authority needs to be studied. The passages chosen for today’s study em phasize different aspects of the home. A Blessed Heritage 4:1-4 Solomon’s early training is here alluded to. In the light of his experience of hav ing a father who instructed him in the things of the Lord and of having a mother who poured out her affections upon him, he does not hesitate to exhort other chil dren to listen carefully to the instruction of their fathers. From experience he knew that such was God’s will. Blessed is the boy or girl who has a father and mother who has daily contact with heaven and who gives instruction out of the Word of God. That is one of the richest her itages possible. A Wise Exhortation 6:20-23 Note the familiar phrase opening this section, my son. Really this is the plea of the Father’s heart that children shall obey their parents. Subjection to parental discipline is really subjection to God, for God has ordained that parents shall in struct their offspring by word of mouth and example in “ the nurture and admo nition of the Lord.” Such instruction will act as a powerful force, sometimes uncon scious, tending toward righteous living. A Vivid Contrast 19:13, 14 Too often there are homes in which there is both" a foolish son and a conten tious woman. Where there is contention and wrangling on the part of parents it is very likely to have a sad result upon the children. Parents who are believers should study carefully the instructions
