use. Solomon is supposed to have mistaken the eggs of the ant for grain. But it is now known that he was wiser than his critics. In Palestine there is a species of ant which is not carnivorous, but feeds on grain and does indeed store its food in harvest time. Man ought to have ambition and fit himself for some gainful occupa tion. Indolence leads to poverty and suf fering. Indolence Compared 18:9 In this brief statement it is shown that an indolent person is “ brother to him that is a great waster.” That is, an indolent person wastes his time, his opportunities and most of all his privilege to “redeem the time, because the days'are evil.” Two ugly brothers these, Indolence and Waste fulness! Look about you and see what havoc they are working in the world. Indolence Observed 24:30-34 The inspired writer in this section calls attention to what he had observed as he was walking in the countryside. He had seen the field and vineyard of such all grown over with thorns and nettles, and the stone wall was broken down. And, of course, the writer did not need to say that a poor crop was the result. What about the vineyard of your life? Is it well kept for Christ’s sake? Helps for the Children What Work Does for Us Prov. 6:6-11; 1 2 :2 4 ,2 7 ; 13:11; 14:23; 15:19 Memory Verse: "Work, for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts" (Haggai 2:4c). When God allowed King Solomon to build the temple which his father David had planned, thousands of helpers were needed for the work of building. If you will carefully read 2 Chronicles 3 ,4 you will discover how many different types of workers were needed. Willingly God’s people worked to build a temple in which they could worship. Occasionally we meet a person who re fuses to work—one who is too proud to work or too lazy to work. God’s Word has much to say about laziness. The book of Proverbs tells what work does for us. In Proverbs 6 God commands the lazy person to watch the ways of the busy ant who provides food for her family without being forced to do so. God reminds us that those who receive their wealth without working for it often lose their money. Read the verses listed at the beginning of the lesson to see what God tells us about the busy man and the lazy man (or woman). Remember that the Proverbs show us God’s plans for living a life well pleasing in His sight. As you Christian boys and girls plan what you will do “ when you grow up,” remember God’s commandments about working as though we were doing the task for Him! Per haps you will be able to do work that will bring fame and great wealth to you. Per haps your work will be unnoticed by oth ers and a work that is not pleasant to do. Any work that God leads you to do is a work of which you should be proud and rejoice. You may claim God’s promise to Haggai, “Work, for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts:” END.

“ I visited an elderly Jewish widow. She was well educated but so utterly downcast and broken-hearted. “ ‘Please pray for me,’ she said, that I should die/ “ On another occasion I met a prosperous Jewish businessman. ‘Last week,’ he said, ‘I made fourteen hundred dollars. 1 should be happy, but I am not. Something is missing in my life which you Christians seem to possess - peace. How I wish I could believe like you. Please help me/ “ An orthodox Jewish woman said to me recently, ‘I love to talk to you. It leaves me with a feeling of hope. You make God so real to me’ ” [From our missionary’s report]
