Malaysian Co-ops Expect to Increase Contribution in Wholesale, Retail Sector

The involvement of the Malaysian co-operatives in wholesale and retail activities began as early as 1936 when The Ulu Langat Malay Co-operative Shop Society was introduced and followed by the Malaya Co-operative Wholesale Society in 1949. During that time, the government encouraged the establishment of co-operatives that are based on consumerism with a purpose; to stabilize the price of main goods and control the supply of food items especially when the country faces an emergency.
