The Malaysia Co-operative Socities Commission has outlined seven (7) strategic initiatives that can be used as guidance by co-operatives in the Wholesale and Retail Sector to gain quick returns and profits. Indirectly, this

would allow the Co-operative Sector to achieve the targeted amount of contribution to the nation’s GDP by 2020 or maybe earlier. The co-operatives’ involvement in this sector is accordance to the “members- owned, members-produced, and members-consumed” concept, which co-operatives join forces and capital to produce products or essential goods for the use and mutual benefits. Co-operatives in this sector are involved in the economic activites are as follows:-

1) Production of products / goods 2) Wholesale (e.g. collection and distribution centres, etc.) 3) Retail (e.g.stationery store, bookstore, grocery store, supermarket, hypermarket and etc.) 4) Retail sales of petrol and diesel oil 5) Business electrical appliances and furniture 6) Franchise business 7) Diners and restaurants
