School co-ops can help fill skills gap

School co-operative model in Malaysia is a good example of youth empowerment through co-operatives as secondary students between the age of 13 and 17 years old are exposed to entrepreneurship by participating in business activities.

ANGKASA has long been promoting the success stories of school co-operatives in Malaysia at the international level in the hope of inspiring other co-ops to establish co-operative at the school level in their own country. Recently, ANGKASA in collaboration with the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) Asia-Pacific Committee on University / Campus Co-operatives organized the International School Co-operative Seminar from 22 to 26 July 2018 in Penang, Malaysia. The seminar, which focused on “Youth Empowerment Through Co-operatives For A Better World”, was attended by a total of 34 delegates from seven countries; Singapore, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Palestine and the Phillippines.
