Insider NEWS | WHAT’S LOOMING
New York City’s Summer/Fall Trade Shows
N umerous well-known area rug vendors are exhibiting their latest introductions in a number of home decor industry shows in New York City this season, notably ICFF , Wanted Design , NYCxDesign , and NY NOW . These home decor industry shows take place at different points during the summer months. The first, ICFF , or the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, has already kicked off the Summer season, held in mid May at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. This year’s event was very well attended, with over 13,000 visitors, and featured vendors from many categories, including indoor and outdoor furniture, kitchen and bath, lighting, fireplaces, water features, sustainable design, and other home decor categories. In the area rug category, ICFF was highlighted by the lovely displays of such area rug stalwarts as Warp & Weft, Nasiri, Tibetano, JD Staron, and Eliko Rugs by David Ariel, as well as others, including allybello, Crosby Street Studio, JOV, Layered, Ligne Roset, Maison Taukkani, Mark Krebs, Rhyme Studio, Tapeteh, and more. Wanted Design , an event co-located as a pavilion within the larger ICFF trade show, focused on newer or unique rug vendors, including braided rug specialist, Cicil, along with several others. Between the rug vendors exhibiting at ICFF and the Wanted Design pavilion, many picked up awards and accolades at the event’s conclusion, including allybello (Female Design Council, Best in Flooring), Cicil (ICFF Editor’s Award, Crafts- manship), Eliko Rugs by David Ariel (IFDA Best in Show Flooring & Rug Award, and NKBA INSPIRE Award in Carpet & Flooring), JD Staron (ICFF Editor’s Award, Flooring & Rugs), and Maison Toukkani (ASID’s Best of ICFF 2025 Award, Materials & Textiles).
At more or less the same time that ICFF and Wanted Design were rocking the Javits Center, NYCxDESIGN was also taking place in New York City, but inside the showrooms of some well known rug vendors. Some of those who opened their doors as part of the event were Jan Kath (located on 25th Street), NuStory (also located on 25th Street), and Safavieh (located on Thompson Street in SoHo). At the tail end of the summer season is NY NOW , running from August 3 – 5 at the Jacob Javits Center. Like ICFF, NY NOW also features a wide array of interior decor products, including home furnishings, lighting, kitchen and bath products, and rugs, but also includes dozens of other vendors specializing in gifts and novelties, and more. At press time, it has not yet been published as to which area rug dealers will be participating in NY NOW. Based on past years, some of the names mentioned above from ICFF and the other New York area trade shows are highly likely to be there. What will be there for sure is the biggest trade show buzz of August, before we get to the center of gravity of the rug trade’s fall market! Yet to come in the NY/NJ area rug trade for fall is Cover Connect NY (CCNY) scheduled from September 13 – 15 in Manhattan at the joint venue of the Metropolitan Pavilion and the Altman Building (see p. 66 for details). The Rug Show—historically having taken place concurrently with CCNY in New Jersey—has no show scheduled for 2025. icff.com wanteddesign.com nycxdesign.org nynow.com thecoverconnect.com
