Dan, in his fourth and final year in the carpentry appren- tice program at theABCKey- stone Chapter, studied and practiced for four months to pass a written test, a safety test and a practical competi- tion. During the 6-hour prac- tical competition, Dan show- cased his carpentry skills in
seven different areas: roof framing, stair building, wood wall framing, steel stud wall framing, drywall, builders level and trim. As a gold medal winner, Dan received a cash prize, a Drill/Reciprocating Saw combo and a new pair of work boots. Upon successful completion of his apprentice- ship program at ABC Key- stone, Dan will be awarded his Bureau of Apprenticeship Training certificate and will be recognized as a journey- man carpenter. ■

Seven craftsmen from Benchmark Construction Company were honored with CraftsmanshipAwards at the Mid Atlantic BX Celebration of ExcellenceAnnual Awards Night in Harrisburg. Bob Brown, Harry Kinser and Steve Zellers accepted awards for the pub’s finished woodworking at the new Luther Acres Towne Center in Lititz. Harry Kinser, Rick Risser and Dan Urban achieved ex- cellence on the Main Street trim installation also at the new Luther Acres Towne Center. Other individual awards went to Troy Boyer and Mike Murphy for the exceptional craftsmanship of the poured foundation on the 122,000 square foot Kirkwood Place at the Long Community at Highland in Lancaster. In addition to the individ- ual craftsmanship awards, Benchmark Construction proudly accepted the General Contractor Award for Safety, awarded to companies that have taken extraordinary steps to protect their em- ployees. In addition, Dan de Vitry, an apprentice carpenter at Benchmark Construction Company, Inc., recently won a gold medal in Carpentry at the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Na- tional Craft Competition. Birmingham, Alabama was the site of the 21st Cen- tury Workforce Development Conference which featured a national competition for ABC apprentices in carpen- try, electrical, fire sprinkler, HVAC, instrumentation fit- ting, insulation, millwright,
