October is fast approaching, and with it comes its share of official “national day” designations, including whimsical days like “National Pumpkin Seed Day.” But did you know that the entire month has been dedicated to National Physical Therapy Month? So, as the leaves are turning and you’re working on your jack-o-lanterns, take the time to learn more about the many benefits of physical therapy. What Is National Physical Therapy Month All About? For almost 40 years, physical therapy has been celebrated by official proclamation. And since 1992, October is the month for honoring physical therapists and the important role they play in healing people in pain. In the modern era of social media, hashtags like #UsePhysicalTherapy and #ChoosePT have helped spread the word. Physical Therapy Month allows patients to share their stories about how PT has changed their lives for the better. It also gives physical therapists a forum for spreading the word about the different kinds of treatment patients can receive. Many members of the general public don’t realize that aside from specialized exercises that build strength and flexibility, PT also offers pain management through massage, heat and cold applications, and specialized electronic-pulse devices.

What Symptoms and Conditions Does PT Help? Physical therapy tends to be associated with sports injuries, along with chronic problems such as back pain, surgery recovery, and balance issues. Yet, you may not realize the range of problems which physical therapy can help -- both for pain management and to help ease other symptoms. Do you suffer from poor balance? Physical therapists treat dizziness related conditions ranging from benign paroxysmal positional vertigo to Meniere’s disease. Vestibular neuronitis and Labyrinthitis can also be aided through PT. Among other conditions the general public may not associate with physical therapy are pelvic floor dysfunction, TMJ, cardiopulmonary disease, Parkinson’s, and traumatic brain injuries. Do you have any aches or pains that could benefit from physical therapy? If you are interested in gaining relief from a natural approach to treatment, contact Fyzical today to find out more information.

GET TO KNOW OUR TEAM: FRANK DIECKMAN, PT, MTC, CFC We are so happy to have Frank lead our clinical team here at FYZICAL Bradenton and Ellenton! He has an innate passion for helping people which really shines through in our overall patient care. Frank earned his expertise from the “Amsterdam College for Allied Health Professionals”, where he graduated in 1994 with his bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy while completing simultaneously a Sports Medicine Urgent Care tract at the renowned “A.F.C. Ajax Soccer Academy”. At his core, Frank really strives to help all patients as much as he can, and he has dedicated his life to doing so. Frank is a highly skilled member of our team and an invaluable asset to our practice. He has been known to treat very complicated cases of headaches and facial pain, and this advanced education has led him to teach 2-day CEU courses on TMJ for FYZICAL nationally. It is rare for physical therapists to have the extensive knowledge and certifications that he does for TMJ, andmany other PTs are eager to learn from him because of this. Our patients have taken notice of hismastery as well! Many of our patients travel far and wide to seek treatment with Frank.

With a desire to help professional athletes and weekend-warriors everywhere, he initially decided to set his focus on a sports medicine career in Holland. Frank then decided to move to the United States in 1996, where he continued his career helping athletes and patients. From 1997-2002, Frank was the clinic director at IMG Sports Academy, helping athletes andweekend- warriors recover from injuries and improve their performance abilities. While his original focus was in sports medicine, Frank has since expanded to include patients from all walks of life. In fact, in 2002, he decided to open his own outpatient Physical Therapy clinic with his wife Melanie Scott, who is also a practicing Physical Therapist. Their clinic initially specialized in back, neck, joint, and muscle injury rehabilitation, but has since adopted new specializations, including the treatment of balance issues, dizziness, and neurological conditions as well as TMJ injuries.

Outside of work, Frank and Melanie enjoy spending timewith their two children and sharing their love for athletic endeavors. At Fyzical Bradenton and Ellenton, we have one mission: to provide compassionate, caring, and effective treatment for any patient who walks through the doors. Frank undeniably helps make this a reality – he is such a unique physical therapist who genuinely cares about everyone he and his team treats. He works hard to better himself so he can be the best physical therapist for our patients. His devotion to patients is unlike any other - if you are living with pain, there is no doubt that Frank and his team can help. My experience at Fyzical has changed my expectations of what physical therapy is and how impactful it can be! “I came to Fyzical Therapy and Balance Centers with very low expectations of being helped in order to restore any quality of life. I had been in and out of physical therapy clinics from 1984 to 2010 after sustaining life changing injuries from a car accident. Over the years, I have dreaded going to therapy knowing I would leave in more pain with no end in site. I had avoided therapy for over 9 years and when my family physician suggested therapy again I looked at him and said that It would not help and actually felt hopeless with that response. I decided after a month to try Fyzical Therapy and Balance Centers after reading reviews and knew I needed to try something besides what was occurring at the time. From my first visit I felt that I was going to be helped. I was thoroughly evaluated and had the chance to ask questions and knew that the therapist understood my apprehensions about therapy, but made me feel that I was more than just a patient, but someone who desperately was looking for help to restore my life. After seeing Jeremiah and Julio, I now look forward to attending my sessions. I have made amazing changes and my quality of life continues to improve. I am experiencing less pain, can play with my grandkids, garden and spend time with family without worrying if I will be in so much pain. The professional care and passion they have shown has given me confidence in my physical abilities and that I can resume a normal life. I can only say that my experience at Fyzical has changed my expectations of what physical therapy is and how impactful it can be on one’s life. I now wake up ready to take on the day!! Thank you Fyzical Therapy and Balance Centers.” – C.B.
