Allison Systems, after focusing on introducing new technologies to the marketplace, incorporated in 1968.At about this time, customers began requesting pre-finished blades, which the company provided. Our pre-finished blade service evolved from there to what it is today. As a company that built its reputation on techno- logical advancements, Allison Systems has doggedly focused its resources on developing an ever-expand- ing web of products and services. In 1972, Allison Systems engineered and built its first blade position- ing system for gravure printing. After completing his engineering physics degree at Cornell University and gaining some experience in other fields, Tom Jr. returned to guide the company after his father passed away in 1979. Expanding Business The company expanded the physical footprint of its headquarters in 1979 to allow further growth and in the early 1980s,Allison Systems designed and built an advanced proprietary computer-controlled doctor blade production system. In 1987, the company introduced the first doctor blades featuring its Superhoned ® bevel.The following year, responding to the increased use of water-based inks and their corrosive effects on carbon steel, the company introduced its plastic doctor blade line. In 1991, the company introduced its composite doctor blade line to improve performance on ceramic anilox rolls for flexo printing customers who wanted an al- ternative to steel doctor blades. Another expansion occurred in 1996 and the com- pany added its Gold series of long-life metal blades to its product line. In 2000, Allison introduced its Superhoned ® Plus bevel, and in 2009 the company expanded its prod- uct line to include end seals and Flexo chambers. In 2013, Allison added peristaltic pumps for flexo chambers to its growing line of flexo-oriented prod- ucts; the following year it became an Authorized Dis- tributor for The Flexo Factor and began carrying its complete line of cleaning solutions; and in 2015 Alli- son Systems became an ISO 9001:2008 registered company. “As the pre-finished doctor blade market developed, we went from a couple of employees and shipping a couple hundred blades a day to shipping thousands of blades a day today with 14 employees,” said Bill Warn- er, Allison Systems’ Vice President. “We have intro- duced many new materials over the years including
