Celebrity Stories Our Country’s Space Heroes ‘5, 4, 3, 2, 1, lift-off!’ Another manned Chinese spacecraft is heading into space. Throughout the years, China has sent astronauts into space one after another. Their missions marked the development of China’s space exploration.
On 15 October 2003, the manned spacecraft Shenzhou-5 headed into space in a roar of flame. In the spacecraft was Yang Liwei, the first Chinese astronaut who travelled into space. He orbited the Earth 14 times before his safe return.

On 25 September 2008, Shenzhou-7 was launched. Zhai Zhigang, one of the astronauts on board, took a spacewalk two days later. He was the first Chinese astronaut to go on a spacewalk.

In June 2013, female astronaut Wang Yaping docked the Shenzhou-10 spacecraft with space lab Tiangong-1 . She gave a science lesson from space to more than 60 million pupils through a live TV broadcast, teaching them different Physics phenomena in the weightless environment.
