Tiangong space station and met the three Shenzhou-14 astronauts there. It was a historic gathering of Chinese astronauts from two different space missions. They stayed in the space station together for about five days. One of the astronauts was Liu Yang, the first Chinese female astronaut entering space in 2012. The Chinese space station has been inhabited by astronauts since then, which is important for carrying out long-term experiments in space.

In May 2023, Shenzhou-16 was launched. Jing Haipeng became the first astronaut in our country to carry out space missions for four times. He stayed in space for more than 200 days in total.

The universe is huge and full of unknowns. There are obstacles on every step to space. Before heading into space, astronauts have to go through long-term tough training. Apart from physical, mental and skills training, they also have to perform tasks underwater, which simulates the weightless environment of space. Only those who perform well throughout the training are chosen for space missions.

Let’s Think

1. How do the stories of our country’s astronauts show the milestones in China's aerospace development? 2. What do astronauts have to do to get chosen for space missions?
