Practical Nursing Graduates Before enrolling at Sumner College, I was working as a Mental Health Technician. While in this position and doing my job well for seven years, I knew I wanted to do more for my patients and increase my knowledge and skills. I chose Sumner College because I had friends that attended Sumner, and are now successful nurses. One day, I would like to continue on and become a Registered Nurse. I really enjoyed all the instructors and every staff member at Sumner College! I now work at Western State Hospital as a Psych Security Nurse.
Previously, I was working as a CNA at an adult family home. I wanted to increase my skill set and employment opportunities, so I enrolled in the Practical Nursing program at Sumner College. I chose Sumner because of their acceptance process. They really look at an applicant as a whole, rather than just their test scores. It showed me that they value each student, and what they can contribute to the medical field. My time at Sumner College was a positive and fulfilling experience. I now work at a skilled nursing facility in Vancouver, WA.

I currently work as an LPN at a facility that provides LTC as well as skilled nursing and rehabilitation. I worked as a CNA at this facility while going to Sumner, and they hired me on as a nurse once I graduated! I now work both sides of the facility, which lets me see and experience the many different aspects of nursing. I love pushing myself out of my comfort zone so I can learn new skills and gain greater knowledge as a nurse. I am so happy with my new career and very thankful for Sumner College for thoroughly preparing me for it! Looking forward to what the future holds! ~ Amanda, LPN
I originally began my healthcare career working as a CNA/Med Tech. I really enjoy helping the elderly. I wanted to expand my skills and knowledge, so I enrolled at Sumner College’s PN program. Sumner’s instructors are very knowledgeable, supportive, and available to the students. Their admissions, financial aid, and student and career services departments were all very helpful. The entire team has been amazing to me. I now work in acute care.
Before applying to Sumner, I was working as a CNA2 in the NICU. I chose Sumner College to get my LPN because I had applied to RN programs all over Oregon and was waitlisted multiple years in a row. Sumner was very welcoming and wanted to help me further my dreams! I am now working as an LPN Charge Nurse for AvaStaff, an internal agency with Avamere. I have always had a passion for the geriatric population, and now my dream of becoming a nurse has come true! Natalie, LPN (Front Cover)

Associate Degree in Nursing Graduates I never thought I would be accepted to a program and Sumner really changed my life! I appreciated the class sizes along with the hybrid learning environment that allowed me to continue working through the program. I graduated in June 2023, and I started working for Providence St. Vincent’s on the Oncology floor in August. I love the culture of teamwork and patient advocacy that my floor embraces. The nurses are helpful and supportive to me and my fellow new grad RN’s on the unit! I am so happy I decided to go to nursing school!
Prior to enrolling at Sumner College, I was working as a medical assistant wishing I was a nurse because I knew I could do more! I chose Sumner because it was the best option for me and my family. I am currently working for Providence St. Vincent Medical Center on the Acute Care Cardiology Unit. I work with patients that have received a new heart transplant, valve repairs, among other things. I am part of an amazing team on the night shift! ~ Renee ~ Erin (Pictured Above)

I chose Sumner because they had a rigorous program that I felt would prepare me to be a good nurse, and I enjoyed working with nurses who had graduated from there. I really appreciate the support they gave to us as students and the flexibility they had for students in school with diverse needs and schedules. Since graduating, I have been enjoying a fast-paced new grad life in the Cardiac ICU at Adventist Health. I work with patients on some of the worst and scariest days of their lives, and feel so lucky that I get to be their support. I learn every day on every shift, not just from other nurses but from my patients. I really feel like I am living my dream career!
Serena
I chose Sumner because they did not require pre- requisites, and I wanted to jump start my career as an RN sooner. I also liked their hybrid program, and being able to do school from home with two littles. I’m now an operating room nurse at a level one trauma hospital here in Portland. I take care of pediatric patients, burn patients, and adults needing surgery. I love being a circulating nurse and getting to scrub cases as well! I enjoy taking care of a variety of patients on a day to day basis, and love the excitement my job brings me!

RN to BSN Graduates
I chose Sumner College first because it is an accredited nursing school, one of Oregon’s most recognized and reputable. It has a record of training countless successful nurses pursuing their career paths in many states. The RN-BSN program is asynchronous and flexible, an excellent opportunity for most students who desire to acquire more education to pursue their nursing career while still able to work. Their comprehensive curriculum and career development resources offer a well-rounded education, practical experience, and support services that enhance learning and career readiness. Gracias to all the professors who contributed to my success story. ~ Natang
Alexandra Before my decision to attend Sumner College, I was raising my daughters, taking nursing prerequisites, working as a CNA2, and waiting to get into a nursing school. I chose Sumner because not having to finish my prerequisites at a different school saved me so much time and got me into the field way sooner than I originally thought. I graduated with my ADN from Sumner and then decided to do the RN to BSN program through them as well. They layout of the program allowed me to work full time while completing my degree. I was able to find my dream job and now work as a Labor and Delivery RN!

More Alumni Success Stories! I can honestly say Sumner College has been one of the best things in my life to happen to me! I am a proud graduate of their LPN and RN program! If you are like me and know in your heart you are meant to be a nurse, Sumner College is the school for you! They are unconditionally kind and supportive from your first day all the way until graduation! I am now a RN in Albany at an Ophthalmic Ambulatory Surgery Center. It is truly the best job I could have hoped and dreamed for! I highly recommend job opportunities through ASC’s!
Prior to attending Sumner, I was working as an ED Tech, a paramedic in a 911 system, and a skills instructor for EMT basic students. After working alongside nurses for 19+ years in the ED, I knew in my heart that being a nurse was what I was meant to do. Sumner was one of the only all-inclusive, no pre-requisites required, entry-level nursing program I found on the West Coast. If not for Sumner I would not have been able to fulfill my dream. Thank you Sumner! Joshua ~ Anne Marie

Prior to starting at Sumner, I was having a hard time finding a nursing program that would give me a chance, even after completing the prerequisite courses. When I felt like giving up, Sumner quickly opened the doors to my nursing career, and I have been able to move into a position at the surgery center where I have been working for the last five years.
