It’s ease of use and impressive output has made ChatGPT incredibly popular very, very quickly. Within hours of it’s introduction there were over a million requests for output. All the while ChatGPT is producing content, it is also learning. User feedback and constant program updating helps the program refine its output in a continuous improvement process. Now ChatGPT and variations are producing reports, music, videos, illustrations, designs, and much more. Individuals and organizations are using ChatGPT to produce content and, as they do, they are also learning how the product can help them improve whatever it is they are trying to accomplish. For a student that may mean a research report for a history class – for a company that may mean a business process, like providing a customer’s comparison quotes for auto insurance. The applications are almost endless. AI initially operated in the background of our lives – for example, lifesaving medical imaging that detects cancers better than the human eye, forecasting weather by scanning vast amounts of data to speed the timing and accuracy of such predictions, or in the development of drugs like the COVID-19 vaccine by ensuring the data sets were free from errors speeding the approval process. AI has now moved overtly into the foreground – thanks to ChatGPT and a host of similar products. It’s easy, it’s accessible, and it is everything, everywhere, all at once – much sooner than most us thought it would be part of our everyday lives.
