carbonate pulps possessed higher carboxyl and surface charge which increases water uptake, a very important requirement for paper towels. Thus, carboxyl content can be controlled using different pulping methods and fiber types, which can be manipulated to control the binding capacity of the fibers and have potential use in antimicrobial tissue wipes.
