James L. Gaudino, President 314 Barge Hall 400 East University Way Ellensburg, WA 98926

Dear President Gaudino,

As you know, the trustees evaluated your performance for the 2016-2017 academic year at the board’s annual planning retreat in July. Trustees were very pleased with your performance—so much so that we agreed to extend the term of your contract for three years. Thanks again for the vision, energy and innovation you bring to CWU. We believe strongly that your leadership has enabled CWU to flourish in spite of extraordinary economic, political, and educational challenges.

In July, the board articulated priorities for the 2017-2018 school year in Motion 17-32:

The Board of Trustees of Central Washington University declares continued development of RCM and ABB systems to be among the university’s highest priorities, directs continued progress on the update to general education curriculum and articulation of the baccalaureate experience, and requests reports on these initiatives at each meeting of the board in order to support and promote their successful and timely completion. As you begin a new school year, the board wishes to expand upon this motion in order to make explicit the work we would like you to prioritize during the 2017-2018 academic year.

1.) Full implementation of RCM/ABB.

2.) Update of the general education curriculum.

3.) Articulation of the CWU baccalaureate experience.

4.) Preparation for the reauthorization of accreditation by NWCCU.

5.) Creation of a more transparent and comprehensive budget-planning process that: • Plans and presents biennial budgets within a six-year context • Considers and presents all resources and all expenses. 6.) Creation and implementation of a comprehensive strategic enrollment management plan that: • Fully funds university aspirations • Considers all aspects of “enrollment,” including retention and recruitment
