EXECUTIVE SUMMARY – CWU Foundation Report

At their July planning retreat, the Board asked for regular briefings on the work of the CWU Foundation and the Department of University Advancement. The mission of University Advancement is to “build a movement of greater community, connection and capacity for Central Washington University and is organized around five strategic areas – alumni and constituent relations, communications, development/fundraising, operations and donor relations.” Performance Data for FY12 To FY17. As University Advancement has built out alumni and donor engagement capacity over the past five fiscal years, fundraising results have increased significantly – moving from total giving of $1.7 million in FY12 to more than $4 million over the last two fiscal years. Donor retention, alumni giving participation, and total CWU Foundation net assets also have increased. Strategic Planning and Campaign Preparation. Strategic planning toward the university’s second comprehensive capital campaign must include increased alumni engagement and a philanthropic vision for Central—one that mobilizes leadership and volunteers, while integrating the work of alumni and donor engagement throughout the university. Leadership Board Partnership. Leadership boards are critical to creating a culture of philanthropy at CWU. At the Board’s Nov. 3 meeting, CWU Foundation Board Chair, Jeff Hensler, will describe the Foundation’s revitalization process and his desire to see greater collaboration with the CWU Alumni Association and CWU Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees Scholarship, as of June 30, 2017, had a balance of $59,801 and was able to award three scholarships for the 2017/2018 academic year. Several of these scholarship recipients will be in attendance for the Board of Trustee members to meet on November 3.
