EXECUTIVE SUMMARY – Provost’s Report
Introductions: Associate Provosts Brief introduction of Associate Provost of Undergraduate and Faculty Affairs, Dr. Gail Mackin, and Associate Provost of Extended Learning and Outreach, Dr. Gayla Stoner. NWCCU Reaffirmation of Accreditation Preparation for the 2018 accreditation site visit continues and remains on track: Site visit dates have been identified; evidence is being collected to help document mission fulfillment; quality, and continuous improvement; Institutional Steering Committee has been formed; data dashboard is under development; communication plan and web presence are in development; and narrative is being drafted (see handouts 1-2). Institutional Strategic Plan Minimal revisions to Core Theme 4 and drafting of Core Theme 5 are complete and ready for Board of Trustees review (see handout 3). Baccalaureate Task Force Reports were reviewed and discussed at the September Provost’s Council Retreat. The mechanism by which the reports will be shared with the campus community is being finalized and feedback will be collected prior to the end of the quarter. Workgroups will reconvene by the beginning of winter quarter. General Education Redesign The General Education Redesign project has progressed along the published timeline. The guiding philosophy, program goals, framework, learner outcomes and pathway criteria, program rules and implementation guidelines, and course development workshops are complete (see handouts 4-9). Framework population is ongoing. New Academic Program Planning A financial template to accompany all new program proposals and designed to meet the Code of Federal Regulations and NWCCU substantive change requirements has been developed and approved by Provost’s Council. It is now under review by the Faculty Senate (see handout 10). ASL Workplan Drafts of the 2016-2017 Progress Grid and 2017-2018 ASL Workplan have been posted to the Provost Office webpage and there are three campus opportunities for discussion and feedback. Major initiatives include continued progress on General Education Redesign, the Baccalaureate Taskforce, and RCM/ABB implementation and refinement; strategic thinking regarding potential pursuit of HSI status; student retention; faculty recruitment and retention; and transfer students and services.
