1990’s EXPANSION & INNOVATION With the addition of two studios, dressing rooms, expanded office space, restrooms, and a reception area, Dancers’ Workshop brought all dance classes under one roof in the Pink Garter Plaza for the first time in 1991. The following year, “Arts on the Hill” was the first summer dance festival held in Wyoming: an event including the participation and performances by Dancers’ Workshop. In 1994, six local students were accepted into programs at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York City — a prestigious program that accepts only 300 students annually. BJ Hanford became Performance Director and Margaret Dow was designated Education Director in 1996, the same year that the community launched the critically-important fundraiser Old Bill’s Fun Run. Under BJ’s leadership The Young Choreographers program was started to offer students the opportunity to create, produce and perform their own work, a program that has since evolved into New Dances/New Choreographers. In addition, BJ began bridging gaps between our Wyoming communities and cultures sharing the art of dance through teaching residencies that included working with students on the Wind River Indian Reservation. DW was a founding member organization to collaborate and work towards a community Center for the Arts, driven by the Community Foundation and including the many creative groups now housed in the Center. In 1999, Babs Case was originally hired to fill the position of Education Director and quickly evolved into becoming the Executive Artistic Director with Jodeen Tebay appointed as School Director.
