Then, a mixed economic-tracking NMPC, which explicitly considers actuator-stiction compensation, is proposed to drive the dryer to the humidity setpoint by the most efficient path. Both optimisations are solved within the system sampling interval thanks to an efficient discretisation of the system dynamics by orthogonal collocation, and to the high computational performance achieved by modern software tools for numerical optimal control. The controller was firstly tested in simulation with a rigorous model of a generic MDF dryer, and it is currently implemented in the actual plant achieving significant performance improvements. Natural Fibre Modification and Its Influence on Fibre-matrix Interfacial Properties in Biocomposite Materials, Stephen Amiandamhen et al, Fibers and Polymers (2020), online. Biocomposite materials manufactured from natural fibres and polymer matrix represent a group of engineered composite products with diverse applications. These materials continue to find increasing applications due to their design flexibility, superior properties and aesthetic appeal. The applicability of these biocomposites, however, depends on theinteraction in the fibre-matrix interface. This paper reviews the state of the art research in fibre-matrix interfacial interaction based on published literature. A brief background on biocomposite materials is presented. The focus of this review is the modification of natural fibres and its effect on fibre-matrix interfacial adhesion and properties. In addition, the effect of chemical treatment on fibre composition and fibre- matrix interfacial bonding mechanism are discussed. Greener adhesives based on UF/soy protein reinforced with montmorillonite clay for wood particleboard, Alejandro Bacigalupe et al, Journal of Applied Polymer Science (2020), online . There is a global concern about the types of adhesives used for the binding of wood particles, most of which include formaldehyde in their formulation. The aim of this work is to study the effect of raw montmorillonite (Mt) particles on blended urea formaldehyde (UF)/soy protein (SP) adhesives for the manufacture of wood particleboards to reduce the use of this carcinogenic component. Rheology showed that Mt does not alter the viscosity of adhesives at high shear rates, so they can be applied by spray. Thermogravimetric analysis/derivative thermogravimetry (TGA/DTG) analysis revealed an enhancement of their thermal stability due to the presence of clay particles. Polymer – Mt interaction was studied by small amplitude X Ǧ ray scattering and scanning electron microscopy. According to these results, the exfoliated structure of the clay particles was achieved. Wood particleboards were manufactured with UF/SP/Mt adhesives in order to study their mechanical properties. The three Ǧ point bending test showed that Mt particles improved the modulus of both rupture and elasticity. UF/SP/Mt resins proved to be a prominent product for the development of environmentally friendlier particleboards with desirable mechanical properties. Stiffness of Synclastic Wood Ǧ Based Auxetic Sandwich Panels, Krzysztof Peliński et al, Physica Status Solidi (b) (2020), onlin e. Auxeticity of materials improves several of their mechanical properties, especially shear, impact, and bending resistance. It also improves ability of materials to absorb impact energy as well as the overall stiffness of structures. In this research, authors examine synclastic panels made from novel wood Ǧ based composites. The aim is to determine the force – displacement characteristics during uniaxial compression and obtain the stiffness of the panels. These data allow one to predict the behavior of a panel during two Ǧ axial bending with different support scenarios. Finite element method (FEM) analysis is performed, with the use of model material, to determine the impact of varied facings thickness as well as different types of materials and core structures, on the stiffness of synclastic panels. It is demonstrated that proposed
