T oday I’m going to read you a few verses from the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus is talk ing to His disciples. “ Lay not up for yourselves treas ures upon the earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust do th c o r r up t , and where thieves do not break through nor steal. . . . Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than rai ment? . . . But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteous ness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” I believe the big lesson for us in these words of Jesus is that we should spend our time trying to see how much good we can do rather than trying to see how much goods we can pile up. Jesus knew that the weakness of man would always be gold which perishes and which at best can satisfy only temporarily. He also knew that man’s real need would always be God who alone can and does satisfy now and forever. But in spite of His warn ing, some people in His day, even as now, didn’t pay any attention to what He said. Which brings to my mind the story of Zeke Davidson,

Mrs. Clark’s ability to avoid the trite idea and the awkward phrase gives this book genuine de votional appeal. $1.50 Inspirational reading . . . NOW THEN . . . by David E. Mason “ Babies and Cold Stoves,” “ Birdinthehanditis,” “Consider the Eraser,” and “Pie and Fire Man” are just a few of the provocative “parables for today” which David Mason has compiled in this book from several years of writing. Each of the 86 “parables” is complete on one page. Each uses a human experience or object to focus a strong light on a significant moral truth.
