A Message From The CEO

Welcome to Seasons Retirement Communities!

Deciding to move to senior living is a big step, and we want to assure you that our team is here to support you along your journey. At Seasons, we all have one common goal: to build authentic relationships with our residents and understand what is important to them so we can positively impact their lives. Each day, our dedicated team members make a difference by creating meaningful connections and 'wow moments' that matter. As people consider a move such as this, they sometimes focus on what they may leave behind. We encourage people to envision all they will gain by moving to Seasons. This is a new, exciting chapter and Seasons aims to support residents in all aspects of wellness, including physical, emotional, intellectual, and social.

One example of that is our Seniorosity ® program, a Seasons' volunteer-driven initiative designed to provide residents with continued opportunities to give back and contribute to their communities in a meaningful way. As a company, we have achieved Great Place To Work ® and Canada's Best Managed Company accreditations. These milestones recognize and celebrate the significant contributions of our staff. Engaged team members provide our residents with the best possible care and customer service. Remarkable Residents ®

At Seasons, connecting with the people who call us home is at the heart of what we do. One way we accomplish this is through the Seasons Celebrates Remarkable Residents® program, designed to celebrate our residents' outstanding achievements, contributions, and talents. “is contest truly embodies our vision to Connect, Care, Change®. It has a lasting, positive impact on residents whose stories are heard and their families. It also allows our team members to learn something unique and personal about the individuals we have the pleasure to serve daily, says Amanda White, Vice President, Marketing and Communications. Based on entry forms, the selection committee takes the time to read and discuss each submission and then has the task of narrowing down the nalists. In the past, the nalists have had their life stories lmed by Seasons, and the winner was awarded one month of free rent. To celebrate the program's 10th Anniversary, Seasons added a charitable giving component. Each year, Seasons now donates $10,000 on behalf of the winner and $5,000 on behalf of each nalist to the charities of their choice. “We feel this aspect of the program perfectly reects our residents' generosity and aligns with Seasons' desire to give back to the communities where we operate our retirement homes, says Amanda. “rough these donations, we hope to continue making a dierence where it matters most. Seasons has celebrated the accomplishments and contributions of many deserving residents over the years. Know? Did You Seasons partners with CareRx to ensure medication service to our residents is accurate, effective, and safe. Here is how having medication administered by Seasons sta and monitored by our pharmacy partner, CareRx, is convenient and can be benecial to your health:

We have amazing team members who consistently go above and beyond to help our residents.

“I truly appreciate our residents as they enlighten me about how we at Seasons can enrich their lives.

“Throughout my journey with Seasons, what motivates me is knowing that every day, there is the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our residents, families and team members. I have continuously received the support and resources to create meaningful 'wow moments'. Now, I can guide others to do the same, elevating celebrations to exceed resident expectations, and staying true to our company vision of Connect, Care, Change ® .” – Allison, Regional Director, Resident & Guest Services

1 | When medications are managed by Seasons staff, all communications, daily deliveries, changes in doctor’s orders, etc., are coordinated through the Seasons Wellness Centre for your convenience. This is especially beneficial when you see multiple doctors for different health reasons. In contrast, some external pharmacies charge for delivery, and sometimes, the delivery is limited. 2 | When the Seasons Health & Wellness team assists with medication administration, it is given at the correct time and dosage. This contributes to fewer drug interactions with other medications or supplements. 3 | The Seasons Health & Wellness team can oversee the effectiveness of medications or the need to change medications. By monitoring general health concerns, such as blood pressure, blood glucose, or pain levels, we can alert your doctor of the need for change.

4 | For residents who choose to administer their medications, CareRx can have their prescriptions delivered to their Seasons home by CareRx. This removes the unnecessary need for residents to leave the community and disrupt their days for medication pick-ups. 5 | Residents can meet with a CareRx-Certified Geriatric Pharmacist yearly or as needed to review their medications, ask questions, etc. 6 | A complete pharmacy profile (Administration Medication Record) is readily available to the Seasons home and the resident to help record medication history for peace of mind.

Sometimes, something so small means a lot to a resident; other times, it may make me cry! This is when I realized what we as a home mean to our residents. They still want to experience fun and enjoy this exciting chapter in their lives.” – Karyn, Fun Manager

“Our team takes a keen interest in residents' dietary needs and wants from their very first meal. This information helps us provide efficient, unhurried, personalized service for each resident, which then allows our staff to have the time to connect further with them.” – Beau, Dining Services Manager

We understand that our residents are individuals at dierent stages of life and that the support they require today may change tomorrow. Before moving in, new residents will have their needs assessed by a medical professional. e assessment will include questions about the resident’s health, ability to perform daily living tasks, and risk for falls. Passion Your Food Is Our

Food plays a significant role in how our residents feel about living at Seasons Retirement Communities. We know how essential it is for them to enjoy the food we prepare. To achieve this, we hire skilled chefs who love food just as much as our residents. Our dining services teams know what it takes to ensure healthy and well-balanced meals without compromising taste and presentation. Many people continue to believe that retirement food is processed, boring and bland, which simply isn’t true. “We condently serve our residents’ food made from quality ingredients and cooked just like home,” says Shirley Anonuevo, Dining Services Manager. “Our residents’ favourite moments often happen around the dining table. Mealtime is more than just eating for our residents; it is their special time to socialize together, an opportunity for our residents to share stories, memories, and laughter. You can see how much they look forward to mealtime on their faces every day when they walk into the dining room,” declares Dining Services Manager Jafet Garcia.

Many Seasons homes oer access to Animal-Assisted erapy or pet visiting programs*, which have been shown to have physical and mental health benets such as lowering blood pressure and increasing happiness and comfort. ese activities can also encourage social interaction and a shared sense of community within group settings. Seasons understands that pets are an extension of our family. When residents move in, we want them to feel comfortable and at home, which is why our communities are pet friendly. We never expect residents to choose between living with us or their beloved pets. General Manager Stephanie Waldron even helped a resident adopt a dog she had connected with at a local shelter. “One of our residents, Vivian, had been looking for a dog for some time until she met a three-year-old labrador mix named Penny,” shares Stephanie. “Still interested, Vivian had not heard back about adopting Penny, so I called myself, knowing I had a connection. Within a few days, the paperwork was lled out, and not long after that, Penny moved into Seasons! We greeted her with a welcome basket of treats, toys, and a Seasons leash!” We ask that residents provide us with emergency contact information if they need assistance caring for their pets. Conversation starters when discussing retirement living with a loved one. Let’s Talk Retirement Living

We often get asked, “When is the right time to move to a retirement community?” The truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all answer, and what may work for one may not be suitable for another. Each situation and its factors are different. ere are many motivators when deciding that retirement living is the best next step for older adults. For independent living, it could be a desire to stop cooking all of one’s meals, to be part of an active, vibrant community or to feel the security of knowing someone is always there if you need them. Perhaps one part of a couple is ready for this move, yet the other is hesitant. e rst thing to do is try to understand your partner’s feelings on the matter. Maybe they are

concerned about nances or living in a shared setting, or they have outdated, preconceived notions about what independent living looks like. e best way to address these concerns is to research the communities you are interested in and schedule a tour. Experiencing the community, perhaps by enjoying a meal or attending an event, will give you great insight into its unique vibe and culture. Supportive living is often motivated by the need for more regular care and wellness services. In this instance, it is important to have a conversation about retirement living before a crisis, such as a severe health event. is way, you can take time to consider all options rather than feeling pressured to decide out of urgency.

At Seasons, we encourage people to talk early, even before these signs present themselves. This way, you’ll be prepared and ready to take the following steps.

parents living a healthier and happier lifestyle, and with errands and chores taken care of, they can simply enjoy each other’s company. “We understand the weight of this decision and want to make the process as comfortable and pleasant as possible for new residents and their families,” concludes Amanda. For spouses or independent singles, the move can make space for more quality time spent doing things you love. One can enjoy their favourite pastimes and hobbies without the nagging sense that there are leaves to rake, dinner to cook or a bathroom to clean. is is your time, to be spent as you wish. KNOW THE SIGNS: Are you experiencing caregiver burnout? Caregiver burnout is a heightened state of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion that may accompany a change in attitude toward required or expected care tasks. Burnout occurs when primary caregivers don’t get the help they need or try to do more than they can handle, resulting in feelings of increased fatigue, anxiety, and depression. Some may also experience guilt when they spend time on themselves rather than spending all of their time taking care of a loved one. In this situation, Erica notes, “We understand that many people want to act as caregivers for their aging parents, but they may work full-time jobs with busy schedules and families of their own. Partners who take on this responsibility can start to feel isolated and overwhelmed. Burnout is very real, and we know something has to give eventually, either for the safety of the person receiving the care or for the caregiver’s wellbeing. ere should be no shame or guilt in seeking out and accepting help. It’s what we’re here for.” If you believe you may be suering from caregiver burnout, speak with a trusted medical professional for personalized advice.

One of the most common objections is that some say they aren’t ready. What does ‘ready’ really look like? Each journey is dierent, and we are here to help guide you.

ey get used to functioning as they are,” adds Leasing Manager Erica Boer. “A lot of the time, this isn’t a decision that happens overnight unless it’s a ‘crisis’ type of scenario, which will accelerate that timeline. One of the most common objections we hear is that many say they aren’t ready—but what does ‘ready’ really look like? Every journey is dierent, and we want to help guide you along the way.” Several long-standing myths around senior living options continue to inuence people’s most common concerns and objections, yet they simply aren’t accurate. For example, the idea is that residents lose all of their independence once in a retirement home. Many move to a senior living community without needing the full complement of supportive services oered, and many actually feel more freedom when they make this decision. “After the rst conversation, we suggest exploring your options. Do you or your loved one have friends living in a retirement residence? If so, visit them, note the feeling you get when you walk in, interact with those who live and work there, have them show you around or schedule a tour. is will give you a better understanding of what life is like in the community. You might be surprised to nd out they aren’t like nursing homes or long-term care facilities as many imagine,” continues Erica. As options become informed decisions and residents move in, the transition comes with freedom from worry and a sense of relief. Many adult children share that they see their

“For family members or partners, there may be some strong but silent signals that now might be the right time to move to retirement living. Maybe an older loved one is no longer interested in activities or hobbies that once brought them joy, or they’re not eating regularly; these indicators could mean that a loved one’s lifestyle is shrinking,” says Amanda Walker, Leasing Manager. At Seasons, we encourage people to talk early, even before these signs present themselves. is way, you’ll be prepared and ready to take the following steps. All parties will be on the same page regarding the future, adding peace of mind and a sense of shared understanding. at said, many wonder how to bring up the topic. How do I have “the talk” about alternative living arrangements with an aging parent or loved one? Amanda suggests starting the conversation with something small, such as asking them their feelings about living at home on their own: • Do they feel safe and secure or worried and anxious when home alone? • How are they managing home maintenance? • Is help needed to cut grass or shovel snow? • Do they have enough groceries for the week? • Do they miss socializing with neighbours and friends? “Some people don’t realize the extent of these changes until someone who cares about their wellbeing brings it up in conversation.
