SM RT brief

The former American Red Cross building has been purchased by Builders Inc. The building at 1900 E. Douglas will be the new offices for Mid America Exteriors , which was purchased by Builders in 2016. The company will be moving from its current space at 1625 E. Central . Patrick Ahern of NAI Martens handled the sale of the 45,435-square-foot building. The property, located in the Douglas Design District , includes 12,000 square feet of warehouse space— something Mid America does not have in its current location. The Spaghetti Works building downtown will become part of a new development. The building at 619 E. William St. has been vacant for more than a decade. However, last month the city council approved plans for a $23 million development. The developer intends to convert the building into 41 apartment units and the current parking lot space into a retail and office center. The city and developers hope this new addition to the downtown area will help connect the area near the arena to the growing area surrounding Union Station . Specs Eyewear opened a second Eyewear Junkie in the Village at Greenwich . The first Eyewear Junkie opened a year ago in Derby . The store’s concept is to remove brand names in order to offer lower prices. The new location at 21st and Greenwich will be in 1,400 square feet of space between Edible Arrangements and Mattress Hub . The company has a Specs store at the Waterfront , but the owners believe the two stores are completely different concepts. The company has locations in Wichita, Derby, El Dorado and Hutchinson and would like to expand to Kansas City, should the correct opportunity arise.
