A renovation project in Exeter by Vision Installs Ltd

Updates from the South In March and April, meetings for Southern Counties Area Board and South West Area Board took place. Director of FMB Insurance, Emma Whyatt, attended both and updated members on the work the FMB is doing to improve processes and systems, and gave an overview of products and services on offer. Southern Counties heard from tree consultant Tom Thompson about what to do when working near trees. Look out for a separate update on this in the coming weeks. South West Area Board’s meeting was hosted by Construction Skills Innovation Centre (CSIC) at Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Cannington campus. The meeting covered skills, apprenticeships and material prices. Board members heard from Ian Mellor from Epix Systems, a construction project management software company, about how having similar systems in place can benefit members. Members were given a tour of CSIC and shown how it trains workers needed for the Hinkley Point C project and the wider construction industry. April saw the opening of applications for board membership for both areas, with a new cohort of Master Builders becoming part of the FMB’s governance from May. They told Kirtley about their move into construction and why being a Master Builder is important to them and their clients. Previously a Royal Marine, Alex’s problem-solving skills and discipline help him in his new career.

South Director, Iain Kirtley, met with Ross Pollard from Vision Installs Ltd to see one of his projects near Exeter – a full renovation of a family home. The attention to detail is evident throughout the project and demonstrates the skills and workmanship of Master Builders. The family is living in the property so the build has been managed to minimise the
