Studying English Language and Literature at Swansea will give you a comprehensive understanding of the English language and literature and how literature, politics and history are inextricably linked. You will discover how we acquire language, how language works and how societies have communicated from Beowulf to the present day.

You will have the chance to study a wide range of national and global literature including Renaissance literature, Gothic and genre fiction, 19th century literature, contemporary fiction, gender and culture, creative and professional writing.

If you are interested in learning more about the English language and its use in the media, or if you are considering a career in the media industry, then the BA (Hons) in English Language and Media could be ideal for you. The course starts by giving you a grounding in media communication, a history of the English language, language teaching and methodology before you choose modules to suit your own interests, which will support you to focus in depth on your chosen research project for your final dissertation. The course also explores creative media practice across a wide range of subjects including radio and video production, digital and social media, journalism, public relations, branding and marketing. Some modules are also available in Welsh.
