Summer Basketball Camps The Gadsden State Cardinals Athletic Department will host summer basketball camps for students in first grade through high school at Beck Field House on the Wallace Drive Campus. Youth basketball skills camps for boys and girls in first through eighth grades will be from 8 a.m. to noon June 20- 21 and June 27-28. Registration fee is $50 per camper to attend one of the two-day camps. Individual basketball skills camps for boys and girls in second through 12th grades will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 11-12 and July 21-22. Registration fee is $50 per camper to attend one of the two-day camps. All participants will need to provide medical release forms which can be obtained by visiting http://www.GadsdenState.edu/GoCardinals. Camp directors for basketball will be Deddric Tarver, Cardinals head coach and Lady Cardinals head coach Bryan Phillips Cross Country Clinic The Gadsden State Cardinals Athletic Department will host a cross country clinic for boys and girls in 7th through 12th grades from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 20. This camp includes speakers who will discuss flexibility, strength, skills training, goal setting and nutrition. Coaches may attend free of charge but must register. Lunch will be provided for all attendees. Registration cost is $40 per person. The deadline to register for the clinic is July 1. The registration fee is $40 per camper. A volleyball prospect camp for sophomore, junior and senior girls will be from 9 a.m. to noon on July 27. This skills camp is for those interested in playing at the college level and is limited to the first 50 who register. The registration fee is $60 per camper. A volleyball team play date will be from 9-4 p.m. July 28 for varsity players. Registration fee is $100 per team. All camps will be held at Beck Field House. Geraldine Youth Football Camp The second annual Geraldine Youth Football Camp will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Geraldine High School Football Field. The event is for children in grades K-6th. The cost is $30 per child. Participants should wear shorts, a T-shirt, cleats, and bring water. The Geraldine varsity football coaching staff, along with current players will be giving personalized instructions. Snead State Volleyball Coach According to reports Snead State Community College has named Cristie Brothers as the program's new head Volleyball Coach. Boaz Defensive Coordinator Former Geraldine Football Coach Brad Waldrop has reportedly been named the defensive coordinator for the Boaz Pirates. Waldrop steps into the new role following the departure of Steven Hudgins, who has moved on to become an Assistant Principle in the Albertville School System.

Gadsden State has hired Blake Lewis as the college's athletic director and baseball coach. Lewis is coming to Gadsden State from Lawson State Community College, where he served as the assistant baseball coach, the head baseball coach and a physical education instructor. He is a graduate of Pleasant Grove High School and he attended Bevill State Community College from 2001 to 2003, where he was named an All-Conference Player by the Alabama Community College Conference.

The Jacksonville State University volleyball team has released its 2022 schedule. The 28-match slate features 14 home matches, 11 road matches and four neutral site contests. JSU kicks off the 2022 campaign on the road in Bloomington, IN at the Indiana University Tournament with a match against Chicago State on Friday, Aug. 26, and matches against Indiana State and Indiana on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. The Gamecocks' second tournament of the non- conference schedule will see the squad travel to Clemson, S.C., for the Clemson Invitational Tournament. The weekend will begin with matches against The Citadel and Clemson on Friday, Sept. 2, at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively. The tournament will wrap up on Saturday, Sept. 3, against Gardner-Webb at 11:30 a.m. The following weekend, JSU will host its first home tournament of the season with the Gamecock Classic between Sept. 9 and 10. The Gamecocks will take on Nicholls State and South Dakota State on day one at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. A match against Samford at 6 p.m. on Saturday will conclude the tournament. Following the Gamecock Classic, JSU will travel to Montgomery on Tuesday, Sept. 13, for a road match against Alabama State at 6 p.m. JSU's second home tournament of the season will take place the following weekend, Sept. 16-17, with the JSU Invitational. Jackson State and Southern Miss will take on the Gamecocks on Friday, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. The tournament will wrap up on Saturday at 6 p.m. as JSU faces Auburn. The conference portion of the schedule opens on the last week of September with JSU hosting Central Arkansas on Sept. 23 and North Alabama on Sept. 24. All 16 conference games, eight home and eight away, will follow a Friday and Saturday/Sunday structure. On Sept. 30, JSU will travel to Charlotte, N.C., to take on the newest member of the ASUN, Queens University of Charlotte, as it transitions from NCAA Division-II to Division-I. The ASUN slate sees the Gamecocks play each team in the league at least once and three teams twice. Jax State will take on ASUN-newcomer Austin Peay twice on the road and will also play Kennesaw State and North Alabama twice. The Gamecocks will play a home and away series with the Owls but will host UNA twice. The regular season will conclude on Nov. 13, in Clarksville, TN against the Governors. The 2022 ASUN Conference Tournament will begin on Nov. 17 and conclude on Nov. 19, in Nashville, TN. Match times will be released at a later date. Cotten Named Albertville Girls Basketball Coach JD Cotten has been named the head coach of the Albertville High School varsity girls’ basketball team. Additional Coaching Duties

Longtime Pisgah High School girls head basketball coach Carey Ellison now has new coaching duties. Ellison has reportedly been named the varsity boys head coach, meaning that he will be in charge of both varsity basketball program's this fall at Pisgah. Ellison has helped guide the Pisgah girls to eight Alabama State Titles.

JSU Football Announces Series with Georgia Southern

Jacksonville State will host Georgia Southern at Burgess-Snow Field in football after the two schools announced a home- and-home series. The Gamecocks will travel to Statesboro, GA, on Sept. 13, 2025 to open the two-game series and the Eagles will return the game to JSU Stadium on Sept. 19, 2026. The announcement is the first of an FBS home game for the Gamecocks, who are moving into Conference USA from the FCS after the 2022 season. "To be able to secure this series with Georgia Southern is really exciting for us and our move to FBS," JSU Athletics Director Greg Seitz said. "When we announced that we were joining Conference USA, our scheduling options increased greatly.

To be able to have a regional FBS opponent with such a storied tradition like Georgia Southern come to Jacksonville is a huge step in our process. We look forward to announcing more games like this as we go forward." The Gamecocks and Eagles have met four times before, with the last meeting coming in 2002. GSU leads the series 4-0 and is 3-0 all-time against JSU in Statesboro. The only previous meeting in Jacksonville was in 1999. Jacksonville State is making the move to FBS almost a decade after the Eagles made the jump in 2014, when they joined the Sun Belt Conference. JSU will become a member of Conference USA for the 2023 season, when the Gamecocks will begin play as an FBS member.

Tuskegee and Fort Valley State will square off in the second annual Boeing Red Tails Classic on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. CT on ESPNU. Fort Valley State defeated Tuskegee in last year’s inaugural football game.

The annual Camellia Bowl will be played on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022 at 11 a.m. CT (noon ET) at the historic Cramton Bowl, which will celebrate its 100th birthday during the 2022 college football season.
