That desire for autonomy gave birth to Premium Websites, Inc. At the time, I didn’t realize how male-dominated the industry was—or that it might matter. That same year, five new web design companies opened in my city. Four were led by men. Today, I’m the only one of those five still in business. The path wasn’t without hurdles—many that my male counterparts never faced: 1.In early client meetings, I was often asked if a man would handle the project. I politely declined to work with those clients. Inclusion is one of my core values, and I only work with clients who share it. 2.I was denied business insurance because, as a woman, I was deemed a higher risk of closing. They were wrong. 3.Other web design firms—run by men—approached me, suggesting I close my business and work for them instead. They assumed I sought "security" through employment. But my security comes from my skills, not someone else’s paycheck. Ironically, those businesses have since closed. 4.Collaborating with male-led companies was difficult. I wasn't invited because the "good old boys" club was alive and well. Despite these obstacles, I’ve built a thriving business, designed the lifestyle I once dreamed of, and created a future I trust myself to sustain. Like many women, I started by solving a personal problem. What began as a quest for time freedom became a mission: to make the digital world more inclusive, intuitive, and empowering, especially for solopreneurs and women-led businesses.

3. Design is Power: How Women Are Changing the Digital Landscape "Now is the time for women to bring their values, skills, and leadership to the tech world. What was once a foreign landscape is part of our everyday lives, and women are brilliant at navigating that landscape to create win-win scenarios." ~ Nancy Matthews, Co-Founder of Women's Prosperity Network Women bring something distinctive to the world of web design: empathy-led creativity. It's never just about aesthetics or code—it's about crafting digital spaces that tell stories, foster connection, and invite inclusivity. As more women step into design roles, the internet is evolving into a more thoughtful, accessible, and emotionally resonant experience. Page 132
