Standing Out: The Call of a Visionary Leader Dorothy A. Martin-Neville, PhD
Becoming a pioneer is not something many plan, nonetheless, some are called to stand out. Those who follow their passion, their purpose, or their “Why” stand out most of all. Leaders don’t blend in, don’t hide, and certainly don’t play it small. Recognizing the vast difference between pushing forward in ego and fear is so dramatically different from succeeding with power, authority, and humility. Humility may be seen as an odd addition, yet it is humility that causes a highly successful restaurant owner to offer one afternoon a week to feed the homeless, recognizing that we all walk this world together. It is the CEO who spends a holiday at a soup kitchen, feeding the hungry, knowing we are our brothers’ keepers. True and humble leaders powerfully own their many gifts while simultaneously recognizing that others have gifts as well. In addition, you find that you are continuously evolving to deeper and more expansive expressions of that same purpose as it transforms you and it As a highly successful psychotherapist seeing 42 patients a week, with a six- month wait list, I started to see a pattern of personality styles, each presenting with specific disorders and/or diseases. Asking friends who were specialist MDs if they saw a pattern in personality within their patients, they insisted my findings were coincidental. Knowing it wasn’t, I went on to study 9 modalities of integrative health, 5 of which were in Eastern Medicine. Consequently, I created my own method, the W.I.S.E. Method, combining what I believed to be the best of each with my own experiences from my practice. After requests from my waiting list, asking me to teach them what I know while they were waiting to work with me, I started a 6-week program which eventually led to my
