Rising from Adversity: The Journey of Eva Mukyala As told by Eva Mukyala In the heart of Uganda’s Central Region—deep within the ghettos of Katwe Kinyoro—I was raised. Life shifted dramatically in August 2010, when I lost my father. I was just 15 years old. That day, I did not just lose a parent; I inherited the full weight of adulthood. With five younger siblings looking to me, I became the family’s provider overnight. Grief had to wait.

I moved myself and my siblings to Kasawo, a rural town marked by hardship—but also, as I would learn, by hope. The challenges were real, but so was my determination. I refused to let my circumstances dictate my future. With little more than grit and grace, I juggled school and survival. I took on every kind of hustle imaginable to make ends meet. Farming became my lifeline. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was enough. It kept food on the table, paid school fees, and slowly, it gave me a sense of independence. Along the way, a few kind-hearted relatives offered help. But mostly, I pressed forward with faith and focus.

Today, I’m 31 years old—a wife, a mother of two, and the proud owner of a growing healthcare business in Kasawo. What once felt like an endless struggle has become my platform for impact. Every day, I serve my community, offering vital medical services to those who would otherwise go without. But my work doesn’t stop with business. I also volunteer at a local government health center, giving my time to support other women— especially young girls—who need someone to believe in them. My passion is rooted in service. My purpose is driven by pain transformed into power. I live each day with the conviction that no setback can silence a determined spirit. My journey isn’t just about survival—it’s about transformation. I am a living testament to what’s possible when faith meets perseverance. My mission is simple but urgent: to uplift my community, empower young women, and prove that adversity doesn’t get the final say. As I continue to grow and give back, I hope my story lights the way for others. I want every young girl facing impossible odds to know: You can rise too. "Press on, no matter what happens—never give up until you see your reflection proud of who you’ve become."
